Steven Gerrard 'Lost It' During Bar Brawl

England footballer Steven Gerrard "totally lost it" and hit a man "with the style and speed of a professional boxer" during a bar brawl over music, a court has heard. Skip related content
Related photos / videos Steven Gerrard 'Lost It' During Bar Brawl Enlarge photo The Liverpool captain allegedly launched the assault on businessman Marcus McGee after the victim refused to hand over control of a CD player.

The 29-year-old star was with friends at the Lounge Inn, in Southport, Merseyside, in the early hours of December 29 when his party clashed with McGee, a member of another group.

Gerrard is on trial accused of affray after the clash left one man needing hospital treatment.

David Turner QC, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court that Gerrard asked McGee for a card controlling the CD player, saying: "Here y'are lad. Give me that lad."

Mr Turner said: "Mr McGee took offence at his attitude and the expression "lad" and he refused.

"Not many people on Merseyside, or indeed anywhere else, would refuse a request from Steven Gerrard but Mr McGee did.

"There can be no doubt that this refusal astounded Steven Gerrard.

"He walked away back to his party but CCTV shows how much his mood had changed.

"He was no longer the centre of that high spirited party.

"He was clearly walking around pondering, musing over what had happened - about the man who said 'no' to Steven Gerrard."

After about six minutes Gerrard returned to the victim who was sitting alone at the bar and allegedly confronted him with the words: "Who the f*** do you think you are?"

Mr McGee, who was not a DJ but was in charge of music for the night, stood up to Gerrard, Mr Turner said.

The pair were head to head, he said, "in the sort of hostile confrontation that is often seen between professional footballers".

This oik is guilty of something … just look at his beady little eyes, slumped shoulders, the Ken Acker Gene oozing out of every pour.

Up against the wall with him!

The evidence against him seems fairly damning, CCTV apparently shows him throwing punches.

Can't for a minute see him ending up in jail though.

Saw a bit of the cctv on the news and the picture quality seemed pretty good. Only saw it once but it looked like you could see him throwing punches.

But just as night follows day, he will be back up infront of some other jury, you can take the boy from Whiston but you'll never take Whiston out of the boy!

He was acting in self-defense! That thug McGee clearly picked on poor Stevie (and his five mates).

Justice was done!

The prosecution clearly forgot to ask the jurors "Are you a Liverpool fan?"

Sometimes footballers are actually guilty though. Anyone remember the time Roy Keane got sued for hitting a woman in a bar? Man U did the usual "shes only after him for the money" thing...until it was pointed out that a) The woman owned the bar. b) The woman was the wife of Andy Rourke of The Smiths and Sinead O'Connors band. c) She was rolling in it.

Keane settled out of court.
