Two small corrections there ... a)It is not beautiful (I suspect some of the overpaid hair dressers have beautiful perms and manicured nails though) & b) it most certainly is not a game, it is at best a mere past time. Now, back to real sports please. Or off to puffballfans.com with you.Sauvignon Blank wrote:No, on mature reflection you are right.
Cheats should be allowed to do whatever they like. And UEFA/FIFA should be commended for destroying the 'Beautiful' game.

It is the 'Beautiful' game. It is widely accepted by millions as the 'Beautiful' game. The term 'Beautiful' game is synonomous with Soccer. Maradona, Pele, Romario, Platini, Cruyff, Zidane to name but a few all ooze 'Beautifullness' when playing the 'Beautiful' game.

There is a huge difference between mistiming a run i.e. being offside and an outfield player deliberatley controlling the ball with their hand. All this stuff about it being a reflex or it not being pre meditated is a nonsense. It's an easy mistake to mistime a run, it's not a mistake to deliberatley handle the ball.combatlogo wrote:
What do you propose in this case? A replay? Is this to happen every time such an incident occurs? Which games should be included - just internationals? European competitions? Domestic leagues? What are the parameters? Does it only cover incidents where a goal is scored? How about incorrect offside calls?
It was up to the ref to catch it. Henry claims he told the ref it was a handball, I don't buy that myself. If a video ref is introduced on the back of this, fair enough but to suggest Henry should have been suspended for some of the WC is laughable.
Henry should have received some sort of ban (3 games say) for deliberatley cheating in a match. FIFA say they can't change the rules or that there is no precedent for this. These are not ancient laws that were found on a tablet found in the middle of the desert ffs! They could have disciplined him if they really believed in their Fair Play slogan. They don't.
However, it would set a dangerous precedent for FIFA to punish Henry:
If they do the right thing this time, they might have to do the right thing next time.
The sport that unites Catholic, Protestant and dissenter has had its day of days. Pity anybody who can't enjoy it. Some day.
