Katie Taylor World female boxer of year

Post by sarah_lennon »

Well done to Katie Taylor, doesn't get enough credit in this country. Maybe if she brings home the gold she'll get the attention she deserves

A truly world class Irish athlete who is at the top of her game for a number of years and not a one hit wonder! Well done Katie. Leinster could do worse than present her to the crowd at the Clermont game

Does she though? She seems to think that God deserves a lot of the credit.
The Irish Times wrote:a devout Christian and an avid reader of the Bible.... In recent years she has begun to speak more openly about God and does so unselfconsciously. On Saturday, in the wake of her win over Cheng Dong, she again made reference to the importance of her strong faith in her life.

“I can’t believe it, I’m speechless,” she said. “I’m delighted the way it went. It’s the best two weeks of my life. . . . I’d like to thank my mother and my father and family. Most of all I want to thank God for the victory. Without him it wouldn’t have been possible.”

Unlike the Trimble story I doubt she'll be derided for it though (and I'm not saying she should be).

Frankly, it would be outrageous if she isn't named Irish Sports Personality of the year.
The sport that unites Catholic, Protestant and dissenter has had its day of days. Pity anybody who can't enjoy it. Some day.

I think Graeme McDowell might have something to say about that.

Of course he will. McDowell always has somthing to say about everything, especially himself :)

I like the guy actually but the award should be Taylors.

I was training in that gym just after the Olympic Boxing Squad were there - following that we then tried to do one of the exercises they had on their schedule. it took 5 of us fatties to pull two tyres about 100m, where earlier, each boxer singularly pulled their own tyres 3 times around an outdoor 1km course, up & down hills & through water - at 6am.
