My Cheltenham Guide

Post by 22dropout »

Right, i am Bookie so i am going to put pressure on myself here to try and turn a profit for the forum members here for the week.

Day 1

Supreme Novices Hurdle

Zaidpour
The forgotten horse of the race. The simple thing is that he has been running on ground 100% against his speedy pedigree all year.I noticed each time he lost this year there was always money for him the next day. The antepost betting trends suggest to me that each run could be disregarded because the conditions he faced then would be completely different for the big race in cheltenham. I would have hoped for around 14-16/1 but i still think the 10/1 generally available is the best value on offer.

Got given Spirit Son in the same race as a tip from my Dad.

What to do, go with my dear old Dad or with a complete stranger who sounds like he's knows his business! :-)

Any other tips from anyone?

Back them both?

Personally, I never back women or ride horses.

Must have been a late gamble on him, SP 6/1.

Local bookies running a promotion where you can take the odds at the time of the bet and not lose out if they go higher so I'll be taking the odds all week!

Yahoooo...... Never doubt Ruby.

What a crackin' race, the overhead camera shot of it on the final bend was superb, he took out four of them in about 5 strides.

Brilliant.

I can report from the front line a fairly bad opening day for bookies. The result in the first race was as good as one could hope for given the Walsh/Nicholls Combo. By the time the champion hurdle came around everyone remembered why ruby walsh is the top jockey in the history of the festival. Hurricane fly, followed by the steering job that was Quevega meant a good start was quickly eradicated.

The sneaky painfull result of the day was Divers in the Last. Ferdy murphys yard has strong connections to this country and no doubt the word got around that they really rated his chances. Came in at 10/1 i think it was in the end.

Not being your typical bookie but its definately punters 1-0 after day 1.

As i was saying though to my colleagues, if your going to have a losing day make it the first. St paddys day were hoping for a big un. tomorrow wont be as mad.

My Dad's tip for tomorrow is Call the Police in the 4.00.

He's normally good for one tip during the meeting so this could be the one.
