US Open Thread

Post by Donny B. »

Some people making Westwood big favourite for this but that's not how US opens work.

Can't see McDowell or Harrington doing much but hopefully McIlroy will make it interesting from an Irish POV.

Good start from McDowell anyway. 1 under for the day.

Harrington not too bad on level par for the day too.

Christ almighty listening to Harringtons interview is painful.
He can't even answer a straight question now.
He'll do well to make the weekend.

Lowry recovered well to finish strongly.

McDowell played very nicely, hope he hangs on in there.

John Duggan on Today FM tipped Garcia this morning. I was wonder what leaves he'd been smokin'

Lets see does he sustain it through the next few days .

McIlroy is playing some lovely golf. Still missing some gettable putts though.

Didn't see Harringtons interview but he hasn't put himself out of it yet (damming with faint praise dept!). Tomorrow is a very big day for him IMHO. If he can shoot better better then 72 he has a chance of playing himself into contention.

Delighted for Shane Lowry, would be great to see him make the weekend.

Only heard a snippet on the radio and despite a reasonably good round under his belt his interview was strange, he was all at sea questioning himself and wondering whether he'll ever get a break. Some of it was incomprehensible frustation being vented.

Unfortunately quite worrying

Great 65 by McIlroy. However I can't help feeling that he's still missing too many makeable putts like that one in the end. It will catch up with him in the end, I fear.

Soon as I start paying attention (ESPN radio on the US Open App) Rory pops into a bunker.

It's OK, just a bump. Parred it and has a 9ft putt for a birdie on the 12th....

I am the Jonah. The one bloody hole I actually get to watch and he double bogeys!!

Anyway -11 is still not too bad. Hope that last hole doesn't affect his confidence though.

I hate to have to say this but it absolutely will do. McIlroy has shown two aspects of his temperament very clearly over the last few years:- (a) that he has the potential to choke when under serious pressure; and, perhaps more importantly, (b) that when he lets a shot or two get away, he tries to force it. He's going to come out tomorrow, trying to lash the ball off the tee and fly it at all the pins. I will be surprised if he breaks par; this tournament is far from over.
