Agree. There is no way that Gerrard will wear playing out there again this season. I think that's a pity, he can be just as influential from there (20 plus goals) with the bonus that when he decides to zone out for 10 or 15 minutes it is less disruptive to the team.Donny Brooke wrote:I agree with you to a certain extent, but Gerrard made it known he only agreed to played that position until there was a viable alternative. He wants to play down the middle and in truth with his goal scoring ability we need him closer to the box.Duke Raoul wrote:The real (though not simple) solution to the Gerrard conundrum is to continue playing him as the nominal right-sided midfielder. I know he won't be happy, but he will be damned effective.
Now I'm sure he'll bristle at the idea of playing out there (a player of his status, the next England captain etc.) but the bottom line is that he is not an orthodox midfielder and he is not a 'number 10'. His best role is as an attacking midfielder in much the same way as Ronaldinho plays for Barca or Nedved for Juve or Zidane in his pomp for Real. All three played from the left of midfield and all three won the Balon Do'or from that position.
It looks like Bellamy will be partnering this guy:
Anfield deal for Kuyt moves closer
- For £10 million in cold cash I think I'd prefer Dean Ashton.
As for Kuyt, I wasn't impressed by him in the World Cup at all. Is there NO other strikers out there at all? The fact that no other big club seems to be interested in him doesn't fill me with great confidence either.
No matter what way I look at the Kuyt deal, it just looks like a bad piece of business to me.

Keep that one Sarah. It could come in handy if we're a few goals down at half-time in Athens next May.sarah_lennon wrote:Yeah I know, but at least going forward we'd be formidable! No point having cash when all you do is waste it
Carrick
Veron
Kleberson
Ferdinand
Taibi
Evra
Saha
Djemba x 2
Instead of spending all of one season's budget one or two players Ferguson could build a team. I fundamentally believe, and it's here for posterity if I'm wrong that Utd will struggle for Champion's League qualification this season

Rubbish. Carrick hasnt even started his utd carrier and your writing him off for god sake. Saha is a very good player and wouldnt have him near the catagory of players that i think you have in mind. Evra hasnt had his chance yet. Taibi was many years ago, strange to have him in that list. Rio is a good player, not worth anywere near 30m but a Champions League class player. The rest are failures and there have been many more and I expect there to continue to be failures. Its the same with a lot of clubssarah_lennon wrote:No point having cash when all you do is waste it

Most Utd fan's I talked to doubt whether Carrick will ever reach the value of his transfer. United have performed a volte face of the traditional way. There's no youth coming through and they just buy seriously overpriced players instead.epaddy wrote:Rubbish. Carrick hasnt even started his utd carrier and your writing him off for god sake. Anyway I believe this is a Liverpool thread. What do you all think of the new kit. The collar's weird!

Sadly, Sarah I have to agree with you. Fergie should have retired when he first said he would. Expect to see Saha come good this year and Carrick will improve us but it was way too much money. Third wouldn't be acceptable to most United fans, but it'll be a good result IMO. Currently our first choice backline are all out injured.sarah_lennon wrote:No point having cash when all you do is waste it

As for Liverpool though, ePaddy is dead right. never heard so much crowing from Pool fans as this summer and I reckon by season's end there'll be more egg on face than at a custard pie convention. Riise is a donkey, the midfield has no shape and the back line has the pace of a glacier.

I do feel very confident about Liverpool this year, but for me a good result would be to close the gap at the top and do better in the CL this year. However if you think our midfield has no shape (which is strange as we haven't even fielded our first choice midfield in a competitive game) then wtf is Chelseas? How are Lampard, Makalele and Ballack going to play together?

Didn't specify a team, but yeah Chelsea are one and the slightly dodgy financial jigging that Real did a couple of years back where they sold their training ground for squillions and began the Los Galácticos.epaddy wrote:Liverpool dont have more cash then utd. only one team do and the sooner the arse falls out of that lot the betterSea_point wrote:Surely it can't be 16 years since United won the Champions league already, or the Premiership for that matter (The wealthiest club in Europe - formerly...).
Different game when other teams have more cash Epaddy, isn't it...
How the board allowed Fergie to push your cash cow Beckham out the door is one of the great mysteries, the fee you recieved is a pittance to what he generated for Real.
Yeah I suppose Real may be due a big re-build at the moment but nearly every footie supporter in the UK over the last five or six years had a Real shirt or two...
Chelsea may have the Abrahmovic billions to baknroll them, but when that stops Real will still be the big Global player. Sorry to say the Glazer era for United will not bring them back to where they were a decade ago.
To finish the point, we won 4 European Cups during our glory years when finance was not the big determinator between the clubs. United managed one. If United fans are being honest they would have expected many more but they haven't even reached a final outside that win when finacially they were the strongest club in Europe....
