Re: The Demise of Leeds United
Given the recent run of form, I'm not sure whether this is bad news.....
Wise quits Leeds for Magpies role
Leeds United have agreed to let manager Dennis Wise join Newcastle in an as yet unspecified role.
Wise, 41, will join the club on Tuesday and will work under Kevin Keegan, who returned for a second spell as Magpies manager earlier this month.
A club statement said: "We have agreed a compensation package with Newcastle for the services of Dennis Wise.
"He will part with the club on Tuesday after completing preparations for the game at Southend on Tuesday."
The statement added: "Newcastle had approached us for permission to speak with Dennis on Friday and since then things have happened very quickly."
Newcastle great Alan Shearer held talks with Keegan last week but has made it clear he will not return to St James' Park as his number two.
Wise played for England under Keegan and has enhanced his standing at Leeds.
The former Chelsea captain has guided his team into play-off contention in League One despite them starting the season on minus 15 points.
That penalty followed their going into administration last season and being relegated, and money remains tight at Elland Road.
Keegan himself would not be drawn on the subject of Wise at a Newcastle media briefing on Monday.
"Obviously, there are going to be some moves at this club, but I think the chairman (Chris Mort) has really got to come out and say what that's all about later this week."
It is the second time this season that Leeds chairman Ken Bates has lost a member of his managerial team to a Premier League club following assistant manager Gus Poyet's move to Tottenham earlier in the season.

They've gone a bit stale since Xmas with only one win & one draw from 5. It's possible that a new manager will refresh things.CrapFullBack wrote:Given the recent run of form, I'm not sure whether this is bad news.....

Another defeat last night, the whole thing has gone pear-shaped, no manager & only 1 win since Christmas. They will struggle to make the play-offs at this rate...

Just losing by the odd goal in most games. Beckford's goalscoring streak seems to have run out...silly punt wrote:Another defeat last night, the whole thing has gone pear-shaped, no manager & only 1 win since Christmas. They will struggle to make the play-offs at this rate...
Macca may be able to lift them..

Leeds United are poised to name Steve Staunton as assistant manager to Gary McAllister.
The former Republic of Ireland boss will meet the Leeds squad at Thorp Arch with a view to being confirmed as McAllister's number two at Elland Road.
Staunton, who won 102 international caps for the Republic, will team up with McAllister after the pair worked together at Coventry.
The former Liverpool, Aston Villa and Coventry City full-back joined the Sky Blues as a player when McAllister was manager in August 2003.
Staunton was appointed successor to Brian Kerr as Ireland coach in January 2006, but was sacked the following October following an unsuccessful Euro 2008 qualifying campaign that saw Ireland lose 5-2 to Cyprus.

Leeds set to hear points verdict
Leeds will find out the result of their appeal against their 15-point deduction by the Football League on Thursday at 1700 BST, reports BBC Radio Leeds.
A three-man arbitration panel will make the announcement at the Offices of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
The panel could back the ruling or, if they find the penalty unlawful, they could reinstate all 15 points.
Leeds have secured a play-off spot but if all the points are reinstated they would go up automatically.
Another option could see the panel return a proportion of the lost points, with five being the most likely added to Leeds' current total.
The Elland Road club are demanding a maximum return of points as they believe the 15-point sanction placed on them by the Football League to be unlawful.
They had already been docked 10 points for originally entering administration while still in the Championship, so in total they have been docked 25 points.
Any return of points would upset Leeds' League One promotion rivals, with Doncaster and Carlisle already hinting they would take legal action if this were the case.
As for leaders Swansea, they will be confirmed as champions if Leeds get 12 points back or less.
The verdict could also cause complications with the League One play-offs, which are due to begin on 9 May.

Re: The Demise of Leeds United
If they wanted them back they should have sought arbitration at the start of the season - not the end - not now when they know what the effect will be.
So poorly run has that club been and such was the magnitude of debt that Leeds still to be trading is an affront to all business and sporting decency.

Re: The Demise of Leeds United
They did seek arbitration at the start of the season, it was the football league who dragged it out & only when Leeds threatened them with the High Court did they agree to arbitration.
As to how the club is run, the gentleman responsible for that is now in the process of bankrupting Cardiff. I am happy to say that Leeds is now a well run club, which now reports profits & on Saturday will have a sell out crowd, the biggest attendance in the Football League this season & larger than most Prenier League clubs.

The process has been ongoing since the middle of the season. The final outcome may have implications for other clubs who lost points due to having to go into administration.Uncle Mort wrote:If they wanted them back they should have sought arbitration at the start of the season - not the end - not now when they know what the effect will be.
