GLASGOW INFORMATION FOR LEINSTER SUPPORTERS

Post by OLSC Committee »

With Leinster taking on Glasgow in the Heineken Cup at Firhill in January the OLSC has prepared some helpful information for those planning on heading to Scotland's largest city.

Glasgow has two airports, each served by Aer Lingus and Ryanair.

Glasgow International (GLA)

Served by Aer Lingus, travel to/from the city centre is by a train/bus combination. From the city centre take the train to Paisley Gilmore Street then take a bus for one mile (routes 66 or 300). If purchasing your ticket from any railway station simply ask for a ticket to Glasgow airport, this will include both the train and bus element (cost is from £3.50 return).

Taxis are also available to/from the city centre for circa £20-23 for up to 4 people, take a metered taxi from outside arrivals.

Glasgow Prestwick (PIK)

Ryanair serve this airport that is connected by a direct rail link from Glasgow Central. Trains are frequent and priced from £6.70 each way.

Rail tickets for both airports can be bought at the station or in advance at www.thetrainline.co.uk this site also has train times etc.

Edinburgh Airport (EDI)

Served by both Aer Lingus and Ryanair this may be an option if flights to Glasgow are full/expensive. From outside arrivals take the Airlink bus (£7 return) and alight at the end of the route (Waverley Station). Take a train to Glasgow (these are frequent and priced from £6 each way and take circa an hour each way).

Supporters HQ

The OLSC are already working on a supporters HQ for the weekend, somewhere to meet pre/post match whether you are travelling in a group or alone. Full details along with all the other information you need will be included in our away guide, available from this website the Tuesday before the game.

Accommodation

The city centre is reasonably compact and can be easily walked, Sauchiehall Street is a popular spot for bars and restaurants. In the past for Magners League games the Hilton hotel has been a popular choice for travelling supporters. Other options include www.accorhotels.com., www.travelodge.co.uk and www.premierinn.co.uk,

Match ticketing

All season ticket holders will be emailed as soon as information is known regarding ticketing, we would urge you to buy from this allocation wherever possible so that the blue army are as together as possible.

As we get closer to the fixture the OLSC will be providing updated travel information, to keep up to date please follow us online;
