Lyon or Nice: Away Semi Final
Hi folks
I won't be able to head over for the semi final (wherever it may be ) but I said I'd look at some options for a friend so I thought I'd stick them up here. Obviously the prices will change over the course of the Clermont-Toulon match this afternoon.
LYON
2 options here via a combination of Ryanair and Easyjet.
Sat 22nd April Dublin to Luton depart @ 8.15 arrive @ 9.30 cost €41
Luton to Lyon depart @ 17.30 arrive @ 20.15 cost €54 (make sure you've a few good books or movies to watch for that wait!)
Mon 24th April Lyon to Luton depart @ 14.50 arrive @ 15.30 cost €93
Luton to Dublin depart @ 20.05 arrive @ 21.25 cost €20
Total cost of all flights: €206
If you have somebody who can put you up on Friday night in London or don't mind spending a lovely night in Gatwick you can head out for slightly cheaper:
Friday 21st April Dublin to Gatwick depart @ 19:20 arrive @ 20:50 cost €34
Sat 22nd April Gatwick to Lyon depart @ 7.25 arrive @ 10.10 cost €39
Combined cost with flying home via Luton: €186
Flying into CDG and getting the TGV may be the much preferred option for some of you with more reasonable flight times and a lot less time in airports and that came in at approx €350
Nice
This is much simpler really
Sat 22nd April Dublin to Nice depart @ 17:20 arrive @ 20.55
Mon 24th April Nice to Bristol depart @ 16.25 arrive @ 17.35
Bristol to Dublin depart @ 21.10 arrive @ 22.10
Total cost: €182
This info was accurate at the time of typing. It WILL change during the course of the game. This is all based on the Semi Final being played on Sunday 23rd April. The vast majority of big european games are played on Sunday in France. This doesn't guarantee our game will be on a Sunday but it's an educated guess.
If anybody spots better ways/deals to get to Lyon in particular by all means throw them up on the thread.

The sport that unites Catholic, Protestant and dissenter has had its day of days. Pity anybody who can't enjoy it. Some day.

The departure on sun is at 5. Might work if a 1pm kick off locally... Just about. But pretty tight. So leaves a Monday flight out or a charter.
Expect to see some schedule changes next week.
I like your right leg. A lovely leg for the role.
I've got nothing against your right leg.
The trouble is ... neither have you

Re: Lyon or Nice: Away Semi Final
I've booked Ryanair return to Gatwick then the Eurostar to Lyon via Paris with 3 nights B&B in an Ibis for about €350 per person. Out Friday mid-morning and back on Monday evening.
Re: Lyon or Nice: Away Semi Final
Swiss airways still have pretty good fares if you can travel on Fri Mon to Geneva. Then train / bus or car to Lyon
Re: Lyon or Nice: Away Semi Final
Killester doing the day trip for 299 plus 65 taxes,so 364 euro.
Re: Lyon or Nice: Away Semi Final
For anyone who wants to stay the full weekend you can fly to Geneva with Swissair
Out Friday back very early Monday morning for about €155
Geneva is not much more than an hour by bus to Lyon
Alternatively Flybe do a flight from Belfast to Lyon through Birmingham with a short stopover
Total flight time just over 4 hrs
About €250 at the moment Friday afternoon to Monday afternoon

A star - thank you. That sorts out my "back Sunday" problem.Le Duvet wrote:New Ryanair flight Dublin - Lyon out 22rd April early back 23rd late. €300 return - best value so far. Just booked 3 seats

Re: Lyon or Nice: Away Semi Final
EPCR has just changed the Venue for our semi on their website to TBA
Hopefully this is just an error!!
Hopefully this is just an error!!

Link please; because this link from their website still says Lyon. Have booked 2 Ryanair as above (put them on hold for 24 hrs for a tenner)

Re: Lyon or Nice: Away Semi Final
All Semi Final venues for all game outcomes were confirmed by EPRC on 28th March and that news release is still on their website. I can only think the TBA refers to either Saturday or Sunday. If they try to move the venue there'll be uproar!
Re: Lyon or Nice: Away Semi Final
Olympique Lyonnais soccer team playing on the Sun night v Monaco in the new stadium, where the Champions Cup Final was last season.

I guess it is just a mistake but maybe they are changing the stadium because of the soccer game

Re: Lyon or Nice: Away Semi Final
Hopefully they may have missed updating that after the Clermont victory over Toulon; until then it was TBA. What soccer match is that? Is it the Lyon vs Monaco match? Just looked it up and they play in another ground (Stade Lumieres) about 20k away and it's KO at 2000hrs.

They had updated earlier to Matmut Stadium de Gerland and replaced with TBA
Remember though the guys that run the tournament now are not noted for their efficiency

Anyone know how many tickets we'll be allocated. Apparently the Stade de Gerland has just 25k capacity. Seems v small for a Euro SF?

Re: Lyon or Nice: Away Semi Final
Matmut Stadium de Gerland is back on the EPCRugby site and according to Wikipedia it has a capacity of 41,842.
