Wasps Trip

Post by blindside »

What are people thinking about accomodation for the Wasps trip? Are you thinking of staying near the grounds or heading into London? Apparently High Wycombe (where Adams Park is) is a grim place and I've been advised not to stay there at all!

It doesn't seem to like Bath or Toulouse where everyone will end up around a town centre for a bit of banter.

Heathrow is supposed to be nearest and handiest airport.

Well last weekend, there was talk of basing ourselves in a nice lively area in London and busing in and out of Wycombe on the day.

Some people mentioned Richmond. I don't really know London so I couldn't tell you what it's like. Maybe some of our London based posters can make some suggestions?

Richmond's a lovely area, lots of pubs. Very few places to stay, however. (Also, there's only one nightclub - though there is an O'Neill's - and it's dreadful. Still, anywhere is what you make it...)

I've been trying to think of places to stay, actually. If you stay in London, I'd recommend somewhere west, and quite near marylebone, as public transport on a weekend is never that great.

Reading is probably not a bad area to try. Lots of pubs and clubs (I'm going there this weekend, so can check it out!) and not that far from Wycombe. It's busable, and I can find out how much a cab will cost.

If you want to try Wycombe itself, there are some pubs etc there, and you are near Henley and Marlow, so for the girls out there, there are some good shops, and you can all wonder at the marvel of the Thames!

There's a guide (sort of) to Wycombe here:

http://www.information-britain.co.uk/ho ... %20Wycombe

Will try and hekp if anyone has any other questions.

I've just rung a couple of cab firms, and you're looking at about £10 a head to go from Reading Station to Adams Park.

Possibility of Loftus Road in London to host the tie. I don't know where that is but it's got to be better than High Wycombe.

Loftus Road is in Shepherds Bush, and is Wasps old ground.

I've had the misfortune to go there too.

Whilst it's easier to get to than AP (by a long way), I'd say the view and atmosphere will be better in AP, and that's saying something.

I'm not sure that Wasps want to give up home advantage either. That, and QPR and Wasps had a massive falling out over Wasps returning to LR, that I would be VERY surprised if this actually happens.

That said, there's a lovely new Jury's at Heathrow Airport. At least I'm sure Limecat was impressed when I took him on a tour of the airport!

Richmond is great craic for the 6 Nations (especially after we've beaten England). The Orange Tree is a good ole spot. Don't know how good it would be for a HEC 1/4 Final Weekend though

Been to Loftus Road a good few times to watch soccer. You DEFINITELY don't want to stick around there. High Wycombe is a nothing town, I'd go for Richmond. Molly Malones is one of the traditional London Irish pubs there and always good craic.

We're Irish. With our inferiority complex, no price is too outrageous. In fact, good value hotels won't even be considered.

There is nothing in High Wycombe under than the usual dross of an English provincial commuter belt town. Reading isn't a whole lot better, and can apparently be quite rough.

Trains to High Wycombe would leave from Marleybone station, which isn't really anywhere near Richmond; would probably take 45 minutes on the tube. Wycombe is also (roughly speaking) half way between London and Oxford, but hotels in Oxford are cr@p and very expensive. Can also access Reading very easily from Oxford if you absolutely have to.

I can provide ideas for alternative air routes (Luton, Stansted, London City,
Gatwick, East Midlands, Birmingham, and for the seriously deranged [like
myself!] Norwich, Southampton and Bournemouth. Also Sail/Rail and Coach.
Just Ask.

BTW Sail/Rail is a good option both from Dublin Port and Rosslare. DON'T
go for the HSS or Swift. Spring storms often stop these sailings.

Hope this helps. For me I shall be listening via the internet from Stanley's
lovely little island.

Allez Les Bleus. :P :P :P
