The pitch

Post by Flash Gordon »

Wondered into the Brook yesterday afternoon to buy the last piece of merchandise I already didn't have and chanced upon the Mary's vs Castleknock game. Had another look at the pitch and its in pieces. At the Weso end in on the terrace corner there's actually a reasonably significant hole around the 5 meter line!
Think the branch need to ask for their money back on the 500K they invested for the pitch......its a mess, and all this in a year where we had the driest Januray on record!
Still think there's way too much school rugby played in Donnybrook.....

Yeah, but previously the Branch hadn't paid 500K for a new all singing all dancing surface that was supposed to be able to withstand 10 games a week!

PS You're wrong. They wouldn't let us in at Williamstown....

Has that turnip crop come through yet at TP (Turnip Patch)? all those holes dug up for planting should have sprouted by now surely?

Sweet Jesus. I've just watched some of the Zaga/Belvo match on Setanta.

I've never seen ANYTHING like the damage to our pitch.

I wouldn't be happy for my young cousin to be playing on it with his schools team, never mind a professional rugby team.

It's nothing short of scandalous...

Schools cup rugby is just as important as the provincial team - it's not going to change anytime soon. Leinster need to move to the RDS on a permanent basis. You do have a point about the amount spent on the new pitch though. Doesn't look like great value for money.

Thata pitch was a discrace, barely any grass left on it.

Seemingly Mary's SCT have been training on Dollymount Strand to get used to the conditions underfoot

No its not. Provincial rugby has commercial potential and earnings and is marketable. Provincial rugby's players feed directly into the Ireland team, which is the big earner.

Schools rugby is of course important, but its impact wouldn't be any less if they were playing around the corner in Belvo in front of some temporary stands.

The year before last Drico didn't play at home in the Brook, and one of the reasons was that the pitch was dangerous.

The guys that got half a mill for that must be sipping pina coladas in Mauritius...

Barcelona FC just had their pitch meticulously relaid to bowling green standard. Cost? €300k

Only we would over-spend on a pitch, have no right of comeback with the suppliers and then let hundreds of spotty teenagers trample around on it for 2 months.
