Much ado - i.e. conjecture, speculation and disparagement - about nothing. 1. Rassie expressly said beforehand, that he wouldn't be talking to Coetzee about the Ireland match and I am prepared to take him at his word. 2. The IRFU has a concrete interest in SA rugby getting out of the hole it's currently in. Should Rassie be successful in his new job, it will improve the Pro 14 and help our provinces compete better with the big money English and French clubs. This notion of Rassie as a fork-tongued Bok mole, plotting our demise is beyond laughable and lacking in generosity to a man, who, as far as I can see, for the time he was there, did the best he could for Munster rugby.paddyor wrote:Hugh Farrelly, written the morning of the game. Well okay, maybe a bit of hyperbole in Farrelly’s piece- but some truth too.riocard911 wrote:Much ado - i.e. conjecture, speculation and disparagement - about nothing. 1. Farrell never contends that Erasmus will advise Coetzee on last Saturday’s match- rather the longer term match-ups; such as the potential RWC 2019 QF. And that certainly the danger- indeed truth of it.
Can’t say I see the IRFU having any duty at all to support SA by sending a good coach back. He’s suiting himself by taking the gig at a significant inconvenience to one of our struggling provinces. That’s the IRFU- and frankly our proper concern.
Not that I bear any grudge, of course- but I do find the acceptance of his honeyed blandishments as demanding gullibility. I’m surprised so many are persuaded that Erasmus is heartbroken to be leaving.

GT is giving out about Joe developing players in advance of the RWC and proceeds to detail all the players like Porter getting chances and the reasonable number of chances they will get.
Porter is getting caps in his 2nd international window and has started against a top 10 team. He can't be more than 2 years older in 2 years.

Re: A whiff of Cordite
Gerry is clearly not great at the auld maths is he? There are only 11 international games in a season, maybe 12 the odd year. For a 26 year old player to have around 50 caps they would need to be capped in almost every single game for 5 years. Meaning they would need to be capped at 21 and barely out of the squad after that. Never injured, never sick, never out of form etc. Does that sound like the real world to anyone else? I mean guys like Beauden Barrett would be able to manage that but guys like that are pretty exceptional. A front row forward certainly couldn't manage that.ronk wrote:https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/rugby/ ... 1?mode=amp

He also says that the squad should contain guys mid to late 20s (and a few in their 30s), and then goes on to single out 4 lads who will be 23 come the world cup, and somewhat bemoans that they will have few caps.
