Re: Sneak Peak - RDS Redevelopment Plans
I'd say it'd be very difficult allright, considering the north and south stands are basically just scaffolding.
Re: Sneak Peak - RDS Redevelopment Plans
Quite hard I imagine. The cover over the grandstand requires large concrete foundations at the back to anchor them in the event of heavy winds/heavy snowfall or various other worst case scenarios. H&S wouldn't allow a big tent over a couple thousand people if it's not got a permanent grounding.nc6000 wrote:How much harder can it be to cover the North & South ends even if they are only temporary?Blue Voodoo wrote:As the RDS are the ones planning the improvements I imagine one of the assumptions is that the north and south stands have to come down for the Horse show so covering them unlikely
Re: Sneak Peak - RDS Redevelopment Plans
A roof over the ends would make it a lot more attractive to the more casual of supporters. Could pay for itself fairly quickly me thinks.
BTW what is the capacity of the behind goal seating at the present time?

More than half of the stadium capacity is in the north and south stands.

Re: Sneak Peak - RDS Redevelopment Plans
Can I change that to "around" half of the stadium capacity. Might be just below half.
Grandstand is the smallest and Anglsea is the biggest. 1000 in the terrace brings it up.

meant more of a case of most assigned seating venues give the worst/last to sell otherwise tickets to away fans

Re: Sneak Peak - RDS Redevelopment Plans
Regarding the roof, it should definitely be all the way around in my opinion, as a complete seperate structure to the removeable stads.
Support base could come from the ground around where the flood lights are and the corners could be scured by the towers or whatever they are on each side of the stand.
It would make the stadium not only look a lot better, but in terms of facilities make it a much better stadium.
People are a lot more likely to buy season tickets in covered seating, many don't care about it being open, but many definitely would have a preference for covered stands etc.

Here's our best guess at the current numbers for each stand:johng wrote:More than half of the stadium capacity is in the north and south stands.
Anglesea Stand = 4320
Grandstand = 4857
Terrace = 1000
North Stand = 4200
South Stand = 4200

8,400 fans behind the posts. A cover should be considered. This is where most of the "lets go to see Leinster this weekend" crowd sit, lots of families, underage club teams too.
So there you go Mr.Dawson, we want;
a. Roofing over the north & south stands.
b. A terrace for the Ultras.
c. Cheaper pints.
d. More urinals.
e. All Leinster games to be on the telly.
f. Halftime entertainment with lots of lovely girls.
Have i missed anything?

Re: Sneak Peak - RDS Redevelopment Plans
The fact that a stadium announcer is even noticed, let alone discussed, is proof that they are doing a sh*t job. Really? Do we really need to worry about someone who's job it is to announce the teams and read out the scores? Short of getting Steve Walsh to do it, I don't think we could get a more attention whoring individual. I know Leinster fans made an issue of how he used to almost mock apposing teams when announcing a winning Leinster score and he's stopped, but still, I hate the fool.

Re: Sneak Peak - RDS Redevelopment Plans
What annoys me most about the stadium announcer is what he doesn't do. I know I''m a stat nerd but it wouldn't be too difficult for him to either look up or ask LR to provide stats on things like number of games played by players and the number of tries and/or points scored - especially for those who haven't yet scored for Leinster.[Jackass] wrote:The fact that a stadium announcer is even noticed, let alone discussed, is proof that they are doing a sh*t job. For example, in the match against Scarlets Andrew Goodman kicked a penalty after about 3 minutes - the first points he scored for us - wouldn't it have been nice if, when saying "Penalty for Leinster scored by Andrew Goodman", the announcer had added that it was his first score. Then, about 30 minutes later, Goodman scored his 1st Leinster try - again an opportunity to personalise the announcements.

Re: Sneak Peak - RDS Redevelopment Plans
Given that Leinster have signed a 20 year lease on the place is there any chance that any of the cost of redevelopment will be passed onto Leinster? I.e. will tickets prices go up? I know they haven't raised them in a few years.
Can I raise a practical question at this point? Are we gonna do "Stonehenge" tomorrow?
