Munster wouldn't take him because he was too Irish and had Kerry connections. They only sign non Irish players these days. They were ok with Carbery because he spent so much time in NZ.ronk wrote:We tried it, it didn't workpaulmpb wrote:Are we saying we need to get rid of Johnny?

Who said he did? I think you have both misread my post.mildlyinterested wrote:Yeah, but Madigan didn't leave because of Byrne/Carbery.ronk wrote:We went into that season with Sexton and Marsh as senior outhalves. Crosbie was released, and I'd say they were a factor there.
This year Marsh has been released even though there is some depth issues so we obviously intend to promote Frawley and/or Byrne.
I said the fact they subsequently emerged mitigated Madigan's departure i.e. made it less bad.
Let's hope some other player will emerge to mitigate Carbery's departure.

Beirne spent 2 years in Llanelli.CiaranIrl wrote:Munster wouldn't take him because he was too Irish and had Kerry connections. They only sign non Irish players these days. Did dippy retire?
Re: Leinster exiles, where are they.
Looks possible/probable. Was stood down by Leicester after repeated concussions back in October, hasn't played since and no longer listed in the squad. Only made 4 appearances for them.mildlyinterested wrote:Did dippy retire?

I saw it reported about a month ago that he had signed for Worcester. I don't think it's true and there is no confirmation on their website or fans forum.jimbobjoe wrote:Looks possible/probable. I see Macken released by wasps there this summer. Anybody picked him up or he left the game?
Himself and Conway coming through were the next big things. Just shows how it can work out.

Rumored to be going to Bristol but he's not listed in their current squad.Degz wrote:I see Macken released by wasps there this summer. Anybody picked him up or he left the game?

The odds are good but the goods are odd.

Article on Tadgh McElroy in the42 http://www.the42.ie/tadgh-mcelroy-sarac ... 3-Aug2018/
Interesting bit: "McElroy missed out on involvement in the World Rugby U20 Championship, however, after a disagreement with the IRFU, who were keen for the hooker to join Connacht’s academy."
My understanding is that he was dropped virtually on the eve of the U20 world cup because he wouldn't agree to join the Connacht academy. Anybody know the story behind this? Did he want to stay at Leinster but refused to be moved to Connacht? Or had he already missed out on a Leinster academy spot? Seems strange we wouldn't try to retain a promising hooker, given it's one of the few positions now where we have a relatively dire success rate at bringing through players.

Wasn't there a falling out between him and Leinster and some rumours of attitude issues?

Head of sub-academy or head of S&C at the sub-academy? I'd heard the latter.mildlyinterested wrote:Yeah, had a falling out with head of sub-academy.wixfjord wrote:Wasn't there a falling out between him and Leinster and some rumours of attitude issues?
Not that it really matters I guess.

Re: Leinster exiles, where are they.
McElroy had options here but chose pastures new.
Made any potential move back to Ireland more complicated by crying to the 42 in a very one sided interview.
Hopefully it works out for him and I hope he got on the right bus.
But if he stayed he'd have a few Pro14 caps with more coming this season.
Instead he's been loaned off to play championship while Saracens recently signed a 23 year old hooker

He's gotten awfully fond of that brick
Re: Leinster exiles, where are they.
Given his age at the time and the fact there are two sides to the story, I think it might be wise to be able to forgive and forget and move on (for both parties). We're not exactly stocked with highly promising hookers.
