Leinster's Record

Post by johng »

This is the second season since 2003/4 that we will have no Euro knockout Rugby.

It is also the second time since 2004/5 that we have not either won a Euro title or been knocked out by the winner.

The other exception to both was 2007/8

Last year was the first time we have finished outside the top 3 in the league since 2003/4 and also the first League final we have missed.

In that 2007/8 season when we missed out on Europe we won the League........ Let's see if we can keep that one intact.

Not a bad aul team really.

I would think that every team in Europe would love to have a CV like that.

Exactly, it's a great way of looking at things. The team have given us great times... on a very consistent basis.

That year we were sort of knocked out kind of by the beaten finalist in a way - though that might be a bit straw graspy

All done without ever getting an Italian team in our group too!
You know I'm going to lose,
And gambling's for fools,
But that's the way I like it baby, I don't want to live FOREVER!

Being pickey but remember going to Treviso for a H Cup game in the dim and distant past ? (could have been before the 2003/2004 season?), always hoped we would draw them again just to go back, nice place, great people.

Yep, Treviso were in our group in 2004/05. We beat them home and away. They were pretty decent that season too, seem to recall they won three of their matches in that group.

And even this remains to be seen. Ultimately it was Toulon that knocked us out with the back to back defeats and (assuming they can sort out the salary thing) they may well win the ERCC this year.

Yes a wonderful, envious record and you have great positivity. However, PART of that record encompasses the last 2 really sh!t years. This year has been an implosion. Sorry if Im being dramatic but the lineout, scrum, breakdown and backline play have become third rate.
