Maybe the powers that be don't rate him as highly as most do?

He is a good European level homegrown tighthead prop.. the list of these leinster have had recently consist of him and Furlong.

By the same extension though it might be a case where that IRFU and Leinster know his injury profile better then most and maybe they think at 3 years he's a bad risk.

Having said that I'd be surprised if they're letting him leave for the sake of an extra year on his contract. I'd suggest that Wasps are overing him money that Leinster can't/won't match. Just my opinion though.

They are probably offering more money but I doubt it's huge money.. 1st/2nd choice TH should get good money from leinster anyway.

Interesting about the injuries, might explain why he's suddenly signing a 3 year deal (if indeed it happens, still not totally convinced although I do trust what Murray Kinsella said) after just going for one year ones before this.

For what it's worth, I tweeted Murray Kinsella to see if he had received confirmation that Martin Moore was leaving. His reply - "That is my info"

As you say it may not be huge but it might be significant and if they don't think he's worth the risk based on his previous injuries, well..........

Anyway, i'm just guessing really. Trying to make some sense of it all.

I still think there's something in what Thornley said about it being confirmed in a couple of weeks.

Would I prefer Marty to stay or Murray to have gone to the dark side and become a stooge for the powers that be? Hmmm

James Cronin has just signed a 3 year deal so it's not like the IRFU\provinces are only offering props 2 year deals.

For a guy with such weight and a low centre of gravity it has often struck me that Marty should be a better ball carrier. He rarely gets over the gainline. That said, he is superb at getting over the ball at the breakdown and earning turnovers/penalties. His scrummaging is very solid now and his work around the field in terms of tackling in defence and clearing out poachers when we have the ball is way ahead of Ross. But he doesn't make big hits either defensively or offensively, which is a bit disappointing for a prop who's under 6ft (and therefore loses some line-out usefulness as a lifter) and still weights a hefty 123kg.

He carried really well in a couple of games last season, expected him to kick on in that regard but it hasn't happened. His breakdown work is improving all the time though.

Is the IRFU purse full though? Hard to compete with Top 14 and with the injection of cash into the English game plus sterling's ridiculous strength we are not in a great bargaining position. I don't think that with our current structure that we'll ever be able to compete with the elite so either change the structure or turn the carrot of Ireland caps into a stick.

at best we'll get Bent back as a specialist tighthead with Dooley and Byrne backing up other side

we aint getting a foreign tighthead

heres a thought, maybe we're looking at this ass backwards, maybe Ross was given/offered new one year deal after Marty (or Niall Woods) started throwing shapes over a new deal especially a 3 year one?

This point makes me very annoyed that Munster have done nothing to supply a TH. Things would be so much easier for us then. I think the last real attempt they made was signing Borlase in 2010, and having seen him play I would imagine they knew he wasn't up to scratch by 2009. I actually rated Archer at AIL level but the best he was ever going to be for Munster was average. Ulster haven't been great either but at least they tried with Macklin and McCallister and eventually signed Herbst.

Think I was the first person to mention an NIQ but I don't see it happening this summer, and don't disagree that it might not happen beyond that. Could be the scrumhalf situation all over again with Ross being asked to hang on for far too long.

If we are struggling in the future at tighthead then it's leinster own fault for its incompetence with moore.

Paying Zane Kirchner and not paying Marty Moore.. awful

+1
Add to the list Jeremy Loughman who is being trialled at THP with UCD. despite injury at JWC 2015 in Italy, he was the stand-out prop in the U.20 6N last season, albeit at LHP. He suffered successive injuries early in JWC and rumour is that Nucifora, a former international front-row, didn't rate him.

Despite those injuries and partially because he is a former centre, this guy is the real deal with skills like Nick Popplewell or former French prop Peter de Villiers. Loughman is an athlete, which is hardly a claim that can be made for Marty, who adds on the kgs when he looks at food.

Young props are often subject to a series of injuries, notably as they try to put on extra weight. Thus far, Peter Dooley and Jeremy Loughman have been lucky in this regard as has Oisin Heffernan. Given a fair wind, at least two of these three, and possibly Ed Byrne, will graduate to the succession line occupied by Healy, McGrath, Furlong, & Moore. That's a reasonable depth chart!

Loughman/Heffernan won't be ready for some time if ever.

Furlong, Ross, RBF, Bent would be TH depth..
