Henshaw injured..

Post by goreyguy »

So now that our big signing is out for awhile, who plays 12?

Probably Reid I'm guessing. When's Luke Fitz due back?

Read on another site it's not meant to be that bad and he should be fit for the start of the season. So wouldn't worry too much. He'd probably be rested the first few games anyway because of the international schedule.

Beyond Henshaw and Ringrose we're extremely weak at centre. Bumping Fitzgerald to centre dramatically reduces the quality in the back three also, given DK, McFadden and Kirchner are squad player quality more than starting player quality.

Fitzgerald, with Adam Byrne playing left wing? The other options would be Daly, McFadden, Reid and Conor O'Brien. Think I'd probably go with McFadden or Daly. How the 12 dovetails with Ringrose should obviously be a big consideration

They'd need to sort this out anyway, because Henshaw will be unavailable a lot of the time even if he isn't injured

They mentioned cartilage at the weekend so that wouldn't take long to fix. Fingers crossed that's all it is.

If not then we should sign Steve Crosbie back and right a massive wrong.

Conor O'Brien has looked superb in JWC. He has marked Welsh and NZ players who are playing Pro12 and Super Rugby, without looking in any way out of place. He MUST be given a run at 12 in Pro12 in first half-dozen games. If you're good enough, you're old enough.

I thought the same about Ringrose last year when others said he was too small. I just felt that his technique was so good that size wouldn't be an issue, plus I didn't think he needed to bulk up THAT much anyway. I do think O'Brien needs to bulk up though. Really like the look of him but can see it being the season after next that we see him. I'd say the A games would be the right level for him next season. Our A team will probably be weaker now too with all the guys who've left, probably a good thing.

He really impressed me so far in the JWC. As deputy to Reid I wouldn't be worried he could shoulder the load. Deceptively strong by the looks.

He struggled physically tonight anyway, still struggling to see how people think he's nearly ready for the Pro12.

I would tell the cautionary tale of Farrell & Daly

Didn't notice any particular shortcomings. His ability to use his feet and pace to find space while keeping ball largely in two hands suggests that he has unusual skills. I certainly think he is ready for Pro12. He's not the finished article but he is certainly the sort of talent that would add to our scoring.

Times says Henshaw out for 3 months after knee op

Silver lining is he gets a bigger rest this summer and would have missed the first two or three weeks of the season anyway
