Ha ha, thankfully for him, Dan wouldn't have been a great listener back then. Oh, I also told Liam Turner he was doing spin passes wrong when he was throwing a rugby ball around in my back garden with my lads. I like to think this decisive intervention made him the player he has become.simonokeeffe wrote:wonder if anyone here can beat your coaching credentials?Flash Gordon wrote:Jasus, I coached Dan through mini-rugby. Re: Academy 2016/2017
rumours on the northside that Hugh O'Sullivan and Jack Aungier will join the Leinster Academy straight from school.
Re: Academy 2016/2017
a lot more talk this year of lads moving straight to academies in England so top lads will be picked up early instead of loosing them. Sub - Academy only suits Leinster as it is a screening process and saves them money. Getting 30 or so young lads straight out of school and all being told they must play senior rugby straight away to be considered for academy and only 3 backs and 3 forwards will make it to the academy at most will only work for so long, lads will and are actively looking elsewheremildlyinterested wrote:rumours on the northside that Hugh O'Sullivan and Jack Aungier will join the Leinster Academy straight from school.

Jack Regan headed to Ulster Academy, after he didn't get an offer from Leinster.

We have our quota of lads from Birr.mildlyinterested wrote:Jack Regan headed to Ulster Academy, after he didn't get an offer from Leinster.
That will be a Birr lad at Leinster, Connacht and Ulster.

Assume Oisin Dowling got an academy place ahead of Regan.
Re: Academy 2016/2017
Good to see James Ryan back in training

Your rumours are correct. Fair play to them. Scrum halves and THPs are at a premium at the moment.mildlyinterested wrote:rumours on the northside that Hugh O'Sullivan and Jack Aungier will join the Leinster Academy straight from school.
Others getting year 1 academy contracts are the trio from Blackrock: Doris, Mullin & O'Brien, Oisin Dowling, have I missed anyone?

Charlie Ryan, Patrick Patterson, David Hawkshaw (or does he have one more year of school?) are all probably in the running too.

Hawkshaw is still in school.neiliog93 wrote:Charlie Ryan, Patrick Patterson, David Hawkshaw (or does he have one more year of school?) are all probably in the running too.
Id be surprised if Ryan or Patterson also joined straight from school tho.

Charlie Connolly? No offer offers on the table as well
Jack Kelly? Academy earlier in season
Jordan Larmour? Academy earlier in season

doesn't exactly look great when players who have came through club game aren't getting offered academy places and most of the incoming academy are from either Blackrock College or St. Michaels College... and the head of the academy is the ex Blackrock coach.
Incoming class
Jack Aungier(TH Prop/St Fintans)
Ronan Kelleher(Hooker/St. Michaels College)
Oisin Dowling(Lock/St. Michaels College)
Caelan Doris(Backrow/Blackrock College)
Hugh O'Sullivan(Scrumhalf/Belvedere College)
Gavin Mullin(Centre/Blackrock College)
Tommy O'Brien(Outside Back/Blackrock College)
Jordan Larmour(Wing/St. Andrews College)
Jack Kelly(Outside Back/St. Michaels College)
I listed Larmour and Kelly as they were never announced earlier in the season as having joined the academy.
Would mean only 4 players from the 1997 age group will have made the Leinster Academy, which is the lowest I've ever seen from one age group since the academy formed.
Re: Academy 2016/2017
You need to quantify that with examples of who should be getting one from the club game and who out of the Rock and Michaels lads should not be getting one.mildlyinterested wrote:

Michaels have been big contributors to the Leinster senior team via the Academy in the last few years and Rock have always produced average enough players....
Should players be picked just because they are not Rock or Michaels educated?? Strange logic.

No i'm just saying it doesn't look great when club players who are 1st choice for ireland u20 - Tadgh McElroy or Ciaran Frawley fail to get into the academy and players behind them from rugby schools do.OTT wrote:You need to quantify that with examples of who should be getting one from the club game and who out of the Rock and Michaels lads should not be getting one.mildlyinterested wrote:

When the academy next season has 7 players from Blackrock in it and 5 from St. Michaels in it and only 2 players from the club game, questions will be asked, especially by those involved in club game in the province.
Re: Academy 2016/2017
Charlie Connolly the tighthead isn't getting an academy spot? Would have thought that he was going to be a sure thing, looks like a very good No3.
