Very sad news. One of the most talented players we've produced in the professional era. Thanks for everything Luke

Re: Luke Fitzgerald retires
Jesus christ. It would be nice to have some good news at some point.
Devastating for Luke. Definitely the most talented back in our current squad in my opinion. So unfortunate with injuries over his career but still managed to play in and win two Heineken Cup finals with us, and a Grand Slam for Ireland.

Some step seeing as Payne was sitting halfway up the Hogan Stand!

A great player with enormous talent blighted by injury.
Brave to a fault too.
Wish him well in his new career.

He has been one of my favourites since he was just a kid with crazy hair and electric feet playing schools rugby. So much talent, so little luck with injury.
Best of luck to him for the future.

Re: Luke Fitzgerald retires
Very sad to hear this. Never nice to see players retire due to injury but he seems to have been more injury prone than most. Massively talented who should have been consistently world class but injuries seemed to get in the way of. He was always one of my favourite Irish players.
Re: Luke Fitzgerald retires
Really sad news. Was so hoping that he would get a run of a year or two injury free but it is not to be.
I will always remember his step. Especially for that try in 09.

Shocked! What a talent but blighted by injury all the way through. Thank you Luke for all that you have done in blue and green.
Will someone please check in with Morf to see if he's OK.

Gutted about this. One of the most naturally talented players we had. A joy to watch when fit and on form. He could go on and become a British politician with that sidestep!
Re: Luke Fitzgerald retires
They are Legend t-shirts, is he not still a Leinster Legend? It would be a fitting tribute from the fans. Please make it happen.Dave Cahill wrote:And I had the best t-shirt idea for him too, the best of the lot.
The last few years have been bitter sweet watching Luke as we were always a different team with him in it but his injuries prevented him from being in it regularly.
Thanks Luke for always putting it on the line for Leinster.

Re: Luke Fitzgerald retires
Really gutted about this.
The best school's player I've ever seen and can still remember when he caught a high ball on his Leinster debut and stepped a defender who was about to take his head off. He just had magic feet, was a brilliant footballer, and was also one of the most intelligent players in the game. I thought he'd overcome his injuries to an extent and was really hoping he'd string a few good seasons together and go out on his own terms, really gutted that he hasn't managed it.
I've seen him a few times recently and would never have guessed that the injury was that bad (although the scar is so noticeable) so hopefully it only affects his rugby and not day to day life. Wish him all the best and thanks for the memories Luke!
