Presume you mean in terms of us not attracting him as opposed to us falling behind Glasgow? That's a stretch, the situation was totally different a year ago.Dave Cahill wrote:Glasgow Warriors have just appointed Dave Rennie as Townsends successor, yes we are.hugonaut wrote:

That said, great appointment for Glasgow and I wish we could have got him ourselves.

well Glasgow had something concrete to offer
were Leinster going to decide NOW that Leo is gone end of season regardless?

Leo Cullen won't be significantly better at the end of the season. He certainly won't be as good as Rennie, if he ever is.simonokeeffe wrote:well Glasgow had something concrete to offer

This is very similar to what I was talking about last week. Some news comes out that's totally irrelevant and the perception of last season gets worse for no reason whatsoever.

Plus Rennie could have been lined up by Glasgow/SRFU as far out as last March or AprilLeRouxIsPHat wrote:This is very similar to what I was talking about last week. Some news comes out that's totally irrelevant and the perception of last season gets worse for no reason whatsoever.

Its where we are now, no top level coach with an intact reputation will touch us with a barge pole.

Re: Leinster line up Mike Ford to replace Kurt McQuilkin
I think that's a ridiculous comment to make in light of him going to Glasgow two years after we were looking for a head coach. We may well have approached him last season and been told that he wanted to see how the NZ job panned out.Dave Cahill wrote:Its where we are now, no top level coach with an intact reputation will touch us with a barge pole.

you can keep claiming last season was a good season, but it wasn't. It was mediocre. Neither Culllen or Girve are good enough to be leading leinster.LeRouxIsPHat wrote:This is very similar to what I was talking about last week. And Deans? And Matson? And Brown? And everyone else were rumoured/supposed to/were talking too?LeRouxIsPHat wrote:I think that's a ridiculous comment to make in light of him going to Glasgow two years after we were looking for a head coach. Re: Leinster line up Mike Ford to replace Kurt McQuilkin
Were we definitely talking to Deans? The strongest rumour I saw was when I thought I saw him in Ranelagh. It sounded to me like Matson wanted to hold out for the Head Coach role at the Crusaders and that Brown didn't think he was ready to move up here and was happy where he was. None of that reflects badly on Leinster. It was a different situation a year ago and there were very few options available, in fact there's still very few.Dave Cahill wrote:And Deans? And Matson? If it was a straight shoot out between Rennie choosing Leinster or Glasgow next summer and we lost out then I think you'd have a point, but let's be fair and put things in context. Who knows, maybe it was us who rejected those guys, we simply don't know.
Re: Leinster line up Mike Ford to replace Kurt McQuilkin
Scottish team appoint a coach and somehow it manages to offer the same people another opportunity to be relentlessly negative.

I think we're in this position (Leo as head coach) because the decision to ditch MOC was made quite suddenly and clearly without any succession plan.Dave Cahill wrote:Its where we are now, no top level coach with an intact reputation will touch us with a barge pole.
If Glasgow can get Rennie and if Munster can get Rassie then I don't think it's beyond the realms that we could get a proven coach.
