Post by bails »

Are Ian Nagle, Ross Molony, Peter Dooley and Jamison Gibson Park the only uncapped players in our senior playing squad ?

Mick Kearney, Hayden Triggs, Billy Dardis, Tom Daly, Rory O'Loughlin, Cathal Marsh, Peter Dooley, Ed Byrne, Bryan Byrne all senior squad and uncapped I think. Didn't include Ross Byrne etc because they're in the academy still.

Leinster's strongest possible 'uncapped' side might look something like:

1. Peter Dooley, 2. Bryan Byrne, 3. Jeremy Loughman, 4. Ian Nagle, 5. Mick Kearney, 6. Josh Murphy, 7. Will Connors, 8. Peadar Timmins, 9. Nick McCarthy, 10. Ross Byrne, 11. Barry Daly, 12. Tom Daly, 13. Rory O'Loughlin, 14. Adam Byrne, 15. Billy Dardis; 16. Sean McNulty, 17. Ed Byrne/Andrew Porter, 18. Oisín Heffernan, 19. Ross Molony, 20. Max Deegan, 21. Charlie Rock, 22. Cathal Marsh, 23. Hugo Keenan

The second row and three-quarter line look strong

So five years from now that's the team that will be playing in the reconstituted HEC final.
You never know.

Wikipedia is the sh!t for this kind of stuff: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leinster_ ... rent_squad

Players in bold are capped, not bold uncapped.

So a quick rundown of uncapped players:

Forwards: Brian Byrne, Ed Byrne, Peter Dooley, Mick Kearney, Ross Molony, Ian Nagle, Hayden Triggs
Backs: Gibson-Park, Cathal Marsh, Tom Daly, Adam Byrne, Barry Daly, Billy Dardis.

All 29 other players in sqaud are capped, 27 of them with Ireland.

Commented on this already in another thread but we can field nearly two full sides comprising of international players. Phenomenal depth.

Sorry for straying off topic a bit. NZ Maori being considered an international side, does that mean by playing for them it rules players out for the All Blacks?

The NZ Maori All Blacks are not an international side. Selection is based on genetic heritage, not nationality

Bleyendall has played for JAB does this rule him out for Ireland? I thought munster brought him in as a project player.

Not to be confused with the New Zealand U20s, the Junior All Blacks haven't played a match since 2009 I believe.

No he didn't - he played for the New Zealand Under 20s - two different sides. The Junior All Blacks are New Zealand A, the same way as the Wolfhounds are Ireland A. They aren't an age restricted side.

New Zealand All Blacks are the Senior National Representative Team
The Junior All Blacks are the Next Senior National Representative Team

Playing for one of these teams against the equivalent team from another union would be disqualifying. But both teams must be nominated as such. Wales u-20 is Wales' Next Senior National Representative Team but playing for Ireland (or NZ or Eng) u-20 against them isn't a disqualifier as Ireland doesn't nominate Ireland u-20s as our Next Senior National Representative Team. However, playing for Ireland Wolfhounds against England Saxons, or for either against the Junior All Blacks is a disqualifier.

The Maori All Black are different again. They are not an 'international' side of any class or description. They are a selection limited to those of certified Maori heritage. Playing for them doesn't disqualify one from playing for another country, nor does playing for another country disqualify a player from playing for the Maori. For example, Sean Maitland could have played against Munster the other night if selected.

So Triggs and/or JGP could still play for Ireland?

JGP was signed (or rather permitted by the IRFU to be signed) precisely because he can play for Ireland at the end of his 3 year contract.

And, AFAIAC, nothing sad about that on the basis of his performance against Zebre on top of his most recent NZ season.
