It would be a real benefit if we can use them to better control ruck resourcing.

Assuming Furlong doesn't get long term injured on the Lions tour and he will have a delayed return to Leinster action, will Leinster really only have the following TH props on the books next season:

Michael Bent
Oisin Heffernan
Jeremy Loughman
Andrew Porter

Your assumption is flawed in that depending on the timing and severity of a potential injury, Furlong could be back in Leinster colours earlier than he would be if he didn't get injured in the first place or even go on the Tour.

Well he is obviously going on the tour and I think it would be a safe assumption to assume that he will have a delayed return to Leinster due to the Lions tour.

Our 5 Lions presumably won't be much involved at the start of the season.
Furlong is the only one we are totally reliant on in the squad. Surely that means Ross will be given another year?

6 Leinster Lions in 2013; 5 in 2009; 6 in 2005 - similar disruption in each of those seasons.
4 of our 6 from last time round have struggled with injuries since.

Haven't we seen situations where lads are given contracts up0 to say Christmas after WC's and Lions tours?

Maybe if Rossie wants to call it quits he could be persuaded to stay until December, get us through the post lions phase, give Porter another 4 months tutoring and head off into the sunset in a blaze of glory?

We can only hope.

This might be unfair, but I would imagine we'd have to pay Big Mike a few quid to go through another full pre-season for the sake of 4 or so months!
Darce did it, but he has a slightly different body shape and was really gearing up for RWC iirc?

Surely the Leinster management have been reasonably confident that Furlong would be going on the Lions tour for quite a while now, and that this was already taken into their considerations.

You can't put a value on a solid scrum.

You would think they have been. But Gatland's a c~*k, so maybe they were keeping the powder dry...and waiting to see how Rossy performs over the past month?

Can't see the interview right now but from Ross's words I think he still hopes he might stay in Leinster and he's not interested in less than a year.

I may be reading between the lines but he did say he'd consider a year contract elsewhere.

The short term deal might be a perfect compromise for him

Dom Ryan, Dardis and Triggs confirmed as leaving at the end of the season, along with the already announced departures of Mike McCarthy, Kirchner and Ross.

Wonder would it have been different for Dardis if he didn't get the shoulder injury at the start of the season. He was clearly rated by the coaches to get a senior contract with no senior appearances. I thought he'd had been one for the future. Wonder if he's getting a deal elsewhere.
He's gotten awfully fond of that brick

Dardis has been extremely unfortunate. Carbery has developed as a full-back who plays in a very similar fashion and is allowed the latitude to do so. Billy is not quite as experienced as taking the ball as first receiver, largely because he has not olayed at outhalf. He is however a very attacking option at full back, better positionally but not quite as evasive as Carbery.

Good luck Billy, your best is yet to come.

Grande chapeaus to Dippy and Triggs, from what Leo said last week sounds like Ryan turned down a new deal

Dardis can always come back at some point

Can't see Mike Ross accepting a short-term deal. I wouldn't mind an experienced, solid journeyman NIQ tight-head on a one-year deal for next season, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen, despite us not exhausting our NIQ quota. Which makes me think we might be allowed to recruit someone of that ilk on a two or three month deal, to cope with Furlong missing the start of the season and/or if a serious-ish injury occurs to Furlong or Bent. I've said it before, but Cittadini is 34, has had a good year with Italy, including in the loose, and is currently getting relegated with Bayonne. Could be an option.

Hadn't realised Triggs was retiring too.

Hadn't heard that and I'm surprised, he's certainly done enough here to earn a good contract somewhere. Very tough year for him and hope he goes out with a medal, apparently he's never won anything before at any level.

Is he though or is it just a slip of the character limit by Dev? Couple of weeks ago he said at a presser that he was sorted with a contract for next season but didn't say where
