Dev got smashed a few times but got better at the contact as the game went on.

He'll be sharp in a week or two.

5 pts away from home = brilliant!!
Lets see how many teams do that at Rodney Parade this season.

I'd imagine there will be a few. I watched it on SC4 and they did a quick pre-match interview on the pitch with Birch. He didn't hide the task in hand. Mentioned their inadequate fitness.

On a different point, I thought Zane showed up well for them. Glad for him.

You can criticise the Sunday Times journos all you want, but they were the first to write about how good a try scorer Marmour is. ...some prospect he is. ....can't wait to see more of him....

Scott Fardy had a fine game but gave away a really dumb penalty for kicking the ball out of the ruck.

The penalty against Cian Healy for not rolling away was incredibly harsh.

Our first lineout was a shambles but looked like a breakdown in communication with no lift on Dev.

Think that's because Peter O'Reilly has strong associations with his old school St Andrew's. Peter was a teacher there and his kids go there. Think it was pretty obvious that the lad was going to be special when he played an SCT semi final when he was in 4th year......the same year he also won an All Ireland senior cup in hockey. Best schools player I've seen since Luke Fitzgerald.

Not too sure about that, the Dragons were pretty awful to be honest.

Peter O'Reilly went to school in Belvo.

Yeah, but he taught English and coached rugby in Andrew's.

Think the point has been missed there...it was that he got Larmour's name wrong.

I thought Fardy was immense on his debut. His counter rucking was top class, he was driving people back in the tackle, his clearing out was great...it was one of those muscular, enforcer type performances in the row we haven't seen since the likes of Hines or Thorn were in blue. Very promising, I think we need one of those really physical and busy second rows to complement Toner. Hopefully James Ryan picks up a lot from him during his time here, but really hope Fardy can fill that role for us.

Other than that, I thought Gibson-Park looked fresh and upped his level a bit since last season, quick to every ruck, very good service straight from the base of the ruck, took a leaf out of Luke McGraths play book with the snipe, which was a lovely finish.

Nacewa just blows my mind with how good he is. Very rarely do you see him make a bad decision. He was immense again and doesn't look to be fading with age at all yet.

Was delighted to see Larmour get on the score sheet. Hoping for a big season for the likes of him, Adam Byrne and James Lowe, really hoping for signs of top quality coming through in our back three ... we need it their most at this stage.

artaneboy wrote:Excellent start. Nearly everyone had a useful to good game. Exceptions being ROL and the replacement front row. Fardy, Deegan and Healy were prominent early and made the physical statement needed. Isa and JGP kept the pace up and they payed off in drawing the traditional Dragons sting over there. Good to get the max points away from home.

RO'L made a few mistakes but I thought he was close numerous times to opening up the Dragons defence.
