IRFU are well positioned to quietly change the rules to 1 NIQ and 1 NIE if they wantedjohng wrote:In terms of players with a contract for next season.
Ulster have just Coetzee as mentioned.
Munster have Botha and Cloete
Leinster have Tomane and Lowe.
Connacht have Godwin and Butler.
Klein Marshall and JGP qualify before the WC.
Lowe Butler and Cloete are the last of the 3 year qualifiers in 2020 (and the 2 lads in the Munster academy I think)
No one else can qualify before 2023. The only 2 who can qualify then are Horowitz and Fainga'a and that would require them to get at least one more contract.
Botha only signed a 1 year deal for 2018/19 season.johng wrote:In terms of players with a contract for next season.

Can add Sam Carter to the Ulster list.johng wrote:Players who currently don't have (or haven't announced) a contract for next season are

Ulster. Nobody.
Munster. Taute (defo leaving) and Mathewson. (Who knows)
Leinster. Fardy
Didn't realise that about Botha. So Kleyn, Marshall and JGP are eligible for the RWC?johng wrote:Botha has a contract until 2020. He signed an extension.
Carter is indeed confirmed for Ulster though.

Ulster have signed an Australian second row for next season.johng wrote:In terms of players with a contract for next season.

Kleyns chances of making the squad I think will rest on how Dillane and Roux get on in the next few weeks. If they both show they're up to it then we've 6 decent international optionsDave Cahill wrote:Of the above, I reckon Kleyn has a real shot of making the squad. Not sure why McCartney hasn't been looked at yet, he qualified in nov 2017
Agreed, he has progressed really well. I saw him earlier in the season in an 'A' game and had obviously seen some of his performances for the U20s last year, and I was pretty unsure as to whether this guy – who has a pretty flawless pedigree up through the ranks - was going to get a spot in the academy at all.mildlyinterested wrote:Back on the topic of leinster 2nd rows, Charlie Ryan's performance last weekend against England was highly encouraging, looked much more athletic and mobile than a year ago. He along with Dunne and Baird give leinster three young 2nd rows to be excited about, although like most 2nd rows they'll need time to develop and mature.
Would big match temperament, while a bit simplistic, be the key?hugonaut wrote:Agreed, he has progressed really well. But he was very impressive against England and with one performance he completely convinced me. That doesn't count for a hill of beans of course, but it's always nice to see a guy coming good.
Talented but to be honest doesn't look good enough to challenge for multiple trophies. Badly need to keep Fardy.mildlyinterested wrote:Possible lock depth chart next season?
Devin Toner(33) - Signed central 3yr contract in 2017, missing start of season due to WC.
Mick Kearney(28) - Signed contract in 2017
Ross Molony(25) - Signed contract in 2018
James Ryan(23) - Signed contract in 2017, missing start of season due to WC.
Oisin Dowling(22) - Academy Yr 3/Dev deal
Jack Dunne(20) - Academy Yr 2
Ryan Baird(20) - Academy Yr 2
Charlie Ryan(20) - Academy Yr 1
Mick Kearney sounds like he is happy enough at leinster."I suppose I am that bit older and the last year or so I have found myself really enjoying my rugby, almost taking stock midweek and looking around at these young lads and being very grateful for the opportunities presented. And even more so if you are in the match-day squad and making the most of it because I really enjoy training and playing with these guys. A great group of lads. I'm enjoying my rugby now, feel good and it's great to be able to get a run at the moment and to be involved again this week."
