Glas vs Lein: Fri 3/11 19.35(BBC Alba / TG4 Youtube Channel)

Post by paddyor »

Unlikely to feature many of the packs that started a week ago. Think SOB did enough to prove he's ready for SA. I'd add Ruddock and Conan as having done enough for the coaches liking, not that that means they'll be picked. Just they're not going to do anything next Friday that changes the pecking order. Probably looking at Bent, Paddy, McFadden and the kids. I'd go

Dooley
Cronin
Porter
Ryan
Fardy
Leavy
Murphy
Deegan
JGP
Byrne
Mcfadden
Kid Withpotentialome
ROL
Kearney/Byrne
Larmour

Strauss
Byrne
Bent
Molony
Timmins
McCarty
Marsh

Ruddock's tackle stats consistently too low for me to be taken seriously as a Six Nations blindside..... Ruddock's defensive stats don't stack up. - All Blacks Nil, Jan 15th, 2014
England A 8 - 14 Ireland A, 25th Jan 2014
Ruddock(c) 19/2 Tackles

I'd be very surprised if we got Leavy, he has a huge chance of benching for Ireland

I'd have him behind Ruddock, Conan and Murphy tbh. I also think Ryan might get another game before given he hasn't really had many minutes.

And he travelled to Ravenhill with the team yesterday. Would they bring an injured player to hold tackle bags?

Ryan looked pretty concussed. I doubt he'll be right to play.

I’ve no idea. That’s the point of the question.

Yeah, I'd say James Ryan is out and we probably won't get Leavy.

Possible back row: 6.Jordi 8.Deegan 7.Timmins

20.Doris

Second row: Fardy + Molony, Mick Kearney on bench?

Centre is a bit of an issue, we may have to go with one of the academy O'Briens at 12, and ROL at 13. Looking at the back 3, Joe may well release at least one of the Kearney brothers as neither has had much game time (especially Rob) and are unlikely to play for Ireland against South Africa. Larmour will play again and Ferg can take one of the wing jerseys. We will likely need at least one academy wing in the squad nonetheless, Jack Kelly at the head of that queue if fit?

Don't think Jack Kelly is fit. He didn't feature in either of the recent A games.
Look out Itchy, he's Irish

I'd start McCarthy. He has to start either this or the Dragons game, as they are his opportunities for game time. Treviso will already be a warm-up for Exeter.

I also wonder will Carbery be given a run at 10. Nothing to do with my preference for seeing him there but, if he is going bench for Ireland, Joe will probably want to see him there.

Murphy isnt in the Ireland squad and the other 2 really only cover 1 position plus we would have no genuine 7 cover

Availability is partly about practicality. When are camps happening, and do they clash with Leinster training during the week, and then how do camps fit in with the travel logistics to Glasgow? It could be that Joe wants two full 15 man teams for training drills.

Glasgow struggling with injuries and intl callups - wonder how many will be released back from Scotland.

Jaysus they look as badly hit as us.
The number of players both teams get back from the national squads will be key.

Gibbons versus Leavy, if it comes to pass, could be pretty tasty.

Hopefully we get RK, DK and at least one back row back.

Could put out a pretty handy pack and an experienced back three if we do.

Would be interested to see Porter get a start in this one, had a good impact the other night.
