Hasn't lost yet for Ireland or Leinster

It’s also encouraging to see that he’s been able to avoid injury for the past few games, which he struggled with earlier in the season. It makes it seem more probable that he has been adjusting his body position before contact rather than just being an injury prone player. Let’s hope so anyway.

Apparently that depends on your definition of professional!!! I’m sure the English championship teams consider themselves professional so if we play them in B&I Cup do those games count as professional for our A team? If they do then James' record is 21/1 - if they don’t count then it’s 18/0

I hope he's rested on the bench. Young bodies can take lots of punishment, but everyone of them has a breaking point.

According to the official statistics James Ryan (74) did not miss a single tackle in the five matches in which he started and the four when introduced as a replacement.

He hasn't played much recently though has he? He's been involved in lots of big games alright, but not outside of them.

None of the frontliners have played much recently, there were 3 weeks between the QF and SF and 3 between the SF and final. Compared to the 6N they should be fresh (apart from the 48 hour party)

Yeah, I think someone on Planet Rugby said he's only played four games in the last 2 months or something. Do we really want to be resting our most important player in a knock-out game in that context?

He is in the top 3 at the moment anyway.

I'd argue that at the moment he's less important than Sexton, Henshaw, Ringrose, Leavy, Furlong and maybe even Cronin. Mostly because without Ryan, Fardy and Toner are still a top tier combo, whereas losing any of the others has a larger impact on the team.
That's not to say he's anything but an outstanding player or that the above are "better", but I think there are a good few players whose loss would affect the team greater (as is how I would define importance)

Until we can.

Would like to see him equal Itoje's record (if it is a record) of 31 games. There are a potential two left this season plus 3 in Australia and then back to the league.

Honestly I don't really care about the numbers and am just happy he is ours. Also scary to see how many of the squad that I am old enough to be their father. Feeling very old right now.

Sexton is by a distance our most important player.
