Montpellier v Leinster Sky Sports Sat 13.00

Post by wixfjord »

Could be an interesting enough selection here, with a lot of guys rotated and given a chance. 6 day turnaround too.

Would be good to get a win to seal top two spot (if it's not sealed later).

Should get a few guys some experience in France too, which might be invaluable later.

I'd go for:

Healy, Cronin, Porter, Fardy, Ryan, Murphy, Leavy, Deegan, McGrath, Byrne, Daly, Isa, RH, Ferg, RK
McGrath, Byrne, Furlong, Toner, VDF, JGP, Carbery, ROL

We might see RH rested too, and ROL put in there.

No option but to go full strength for this one.
Taking our foot off the gas cost us last year’s tournament. Let’s not make the same mistake this time

We definitely do have options, particularly now given the Racing result.

A great opportunity to test some gives and freshen up things.

Not sure what they would be getting rested for to be honest. It's a big statement of intent to win all the group games. I'd expect full strength bar a bit of rotation.

Bring Rob Kearney, Healy & Leavy in to the starting team. Lowe for Daly, JGP & Larmour to the bench. As you were after that.

Part of me thinks Sexton should be rested; another part of me thought Byrne was poor in easy circumstances this evening and thinks it's a risk too far.

The first game is 3 weeks away, and he has had plenty of time off since November. He will be utterly undercooked if we give him 3 weeks off now.

I wonder will the fact that MontP have a league game 7/8 days later against Clermont effect their selection next week?

Hasn't played rugby since November and hasn't played at 10 for Leinster this (regular) season, unless I'm forgetting something.

Full metal jacket for next week. We don't play again until 17th of Feb. No need to rest no one.

Agree.
Because of our national team commitments, we need as easy a home QF game, as posdible, against any of the away teams except Exeter - no doubt we'll get Exeter.

That's what I meant, the 9th.
Q. Have Montpellier any shot at a semi?

Rotate where reasonable to do so but we should take the game somewhat seriously to keep up momentum. With that in mind:

1-23: Healy, Cronin, Bent, Fardy, Ryan, Murphy, VDF, Leavy, McGrath, Sexton, Daly, Isa, Henshaw, Ferg, Rob, Byrne, McGrath, Furlong, Toner, VDF, JGP, Byrne, Larmour.
The sport that unites Catholic, Protestant and dissenter has had its day of days. Pity anybody who can't enjoy it. Some day.

Gerry Thornley 23/3/09. 'Nuff said.

Mathematically yes, but they'll be fupped if Exeter win in Glasgow.

Absolutely no reason not to play a strong team next week. Win and possibly put Toulon out and build the legend of our power. Lose and we risk bursting the bubble and sowing hope in our rivals.

Not that it should have any influence on our selection decision for next Saturday, but the Six Nations is three weeks away. So let’s look after ourselves.
