Joey will play a lot at 10 for province and country in the future.

But that’s just my view. Maybe you’re right. You certainly are more convinced you are.

Haha so a player having played badly in the past means he's a worse 10 now?!

You said there's no evidence that Byrne is a better 10 than Carbery.

That's incorrect. There's plenty of that.

Carbery may have more 'potential', but at the moment, it's just that, potential. Byrne has shown he can handle the hot stuff at the top end and pull us through big games.

Like today, for one.

I wouldn’t have the slightest hesitation in playing Carbery at 10 and, of course, Joe doesn’t either.

He certainly been given more opportunity than Carberry at out half.

Ross played very well today, but I wouldn’t eulogise his performances either over Joey. To my judgement Carbery is still both performing at a higher level generally- and possesses a higher ceiling at out half than does Byrne.

Ceiling yea, get that but the rest??

Its like the Nordie thing, its a farce to be losing a player at his peak in favour of holding onto potential. Joey needs a few games at OH in order to validate your judgement that ".....Carbery is still both performing at a higher level generally"

Madser was a game changer but sometimes you need more Wilkinson and less Spencer. Great having both in Byrne & Karrburey and having a Spenkinson in J10.

It was glorious to watch. We kept them scoreless and probably would have notched a fourth try if it wasn't for a bit of box kicking experimentation.

Toner was largely excellent. He gets through so much work with and without the ball. An incredibly reliable performer. Cronin was outstanding. He looks like he's really enjoying his rugby. Maybe some contractual stuff has cleared up. Hopefully the long wait for the quarters doesn't allow our rivals to catch up. Pity we don't play next week.
Yeah +1 on Toner. I'd also credit him with the serious driving Maul after Ryan took the line out and directed the maul. Toners body position, drive amd the sheer length of his back made that move so difficult for Mont to handle. One we should return to more often.
He also nicked a line out on our five metre line, and took the wind right out of them. All in all an excellent days work.
Strikes me that the coaching team decided that the only way to defend the 5m maul was to attack their lineout ball. It seemed ridiculous to try again, right up until he got his hand to the ball.

He'd fit right in at the borg in London

Yeah- you’re probably right in terms of Leinster. I suppose it would be more accurate to say- the last time he was selected to play OH, he played at a higher level than Ross.

But I really don’t want to take from Ross, his game today- or his potential. I just think Joey is a better 10, and has displayed more potential. Not worth a row really...

What a problem to have though. We're rgueing over which of our back up out halves is second best and which of them is third best. Not one of us would have another out half in the country over either of them though. What a time to be a Leinster fan! Great day all around.

To be even more positive, Toner’s performance today was rightly praised, and his second row partner Ryan also showed really well. This match without Fardy was a crucial test of his development: he passed with honours.

Really incredible to think that Sean O’Brien, Garry Ringrose, Jamie Heaslip and Johnny Sexton were missing from a squad which went France and won over the T14 leaders. If you said that was possible last year, you could have called your odds.

Ruddock and Tracy missing from the 23 too

Also worth noting Porter is here to stay as no18 now, how quickly has he progressed especially considering he switched sides

Our scrum in general was great today

Fall was super for them. Impressive Leinster performance to win away against one of the star studded teams in the world with more to play for than us.

Plenty of little things that we could improve but really excellent stuff too.
