Scott Fardy vs Tadhg Beirne Round 2 - Sat 3.15 Sky Sports

Post by wixfjord »

Biggest league game of the season right here. Win and we're in pole position. LBP wouldn't be such a bad result either.

Talk that we might be getting SOB back, which would be a big boost.

Presuming we're getting some Irish guys back I'd go with something like:

Byrne, Cronin, Bent, Molony, Fardy, Jordi, SOB, Deegan, JGP, Byrne, Daly, Isa, Ringer, MCF, Larmour
Tracy, Dooley, Heffernan, Nagle/Kearney, Josh M, McCarthy, Carbery, ROL.

Might be a risk to start SOB if he's available. (And it may be a 'week too soon'.

They're down McNicholl and Prydie from the RDS game, but may get back Patchell considering he's now benching?

Patchell was left out altogether

Its bizarre that Scarlets were far worse at home to Ulster than away to us

I’d say none. The fact he had a good run out yesterday will release most of the incentive for Ireland to release him. They obviously value him as a real option, so not much hope of them not valuing him.

JGP was only on for a few minutes before limping off looking very uncomfortable on Friday. I’d be surprised if he’s OK for this week.

If that’s the case, then who would bench for Nick McCarthy. Charlie Rock or Hugh O’Sullivan?

Charlie Rock was a match day sub on Friday so he’s probably next in line.

??? He came on in the 67th minute. Not sure I'd describe that as a good run out. He's played 53 minutes of rugby since the Montpellier match on Jan 20th
Look out Itchy, he's Irish

SOB unavailable for this game as is Will Connors.

Garry Ringrose came through the Kings game without any issues.

So we're missing:

Ireland: McGrath, Healy, Cronin, Furlong, Porter, Toner, Ryan, Leavy, Conan, Sexton, Carbery, R Kearney, McFadden (?)
Injury: Ruddock, SOB, VDF, Connors, McGrath, JGP, Marsh, Henshaw, T Daly, ROL

Possibly getting Tracy and Ross Byrne back this week. That's at least 23 players missing, 6 from the back row (7 including Healsip  ). That's just getting crazy. Could be looking at:

Byrne Tracy Bent
Molony Fardy
Murphy Deegan Murphy

McCarthy Byrne
Nacewa Ringrose
Lowe Larmour Daly

Byrne, Dooley, Coyle, Nagle, Timmins, Rock, Frawley, A Byrne

I'd imagine that we will get some Ireland lads back. McF and Conan?

Conway remains injured and Joe was reluctant to release any of his 23 for the home fixture. Can't see him releasing guys for the away one. Cronin was the only one who was released 2 weeks ago.

is JGP healthy?

Edit - JGP not injured, left field due to cut knee apparently.

You'd think it would make sense to release Carbery, especially with Byrne injured. How many minutes rugby has he played this year? Surely a stint at outhalf this weekend would be hugely beneficial. Unfortunately I don't see it happening.

If it didn't happen for the home game I can't imagine it'll happen for the away one. Although if Leinster really are that stuck they might make an exception...

Getting Conan and Carberry back would be massive for us, especially Jack. Is Conway's injury serious? It'd be handy to have Ferg also (I'm just getting greedy now [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND COLD SWEAT]).

The sport that unites Catholic, Protestant and dissenter has had its day of days. Pity anybody who can't enjoy it. Some day.

Gerry Thornley 23/3/09. 'Nuff said.

I think Nordi is more likely than Conan.

I'm already resigned to the game being called off tbh. I hope not because I think we'd have a great chance of winning if we added two or three Ireland players (and maybe had Ross Byrne back) to the team from last weekend, but the forecast for Thursday and Friday is dreadful.

I'd say Conan didn't have a great video review. Given that, the fact that Scotland pose a totally different threat at the breakdown, and Joe's preference for Jordi, I wonder if it's not Jordi who might bench for Ireland.
