Re: Heaslip retiring
Everyone has expressed it so well here already. Gutted he couldn't go out on his own terms. But maybe he did....
So many amazing memories in blue and green.
Thank you Jamie.

The sport that unites Catholic, Protestant and dissenter has had its day of days. Pity anybody who can't enjoy it. Some day.

All time great of the game - more decorations than you could fit on a reasonably sized shelf.
Best of luck in the future Jamie

Re: Heaslip retiring
So many great memories,
The tries against Clermont in the quarter final
The try in Murrayfield in The Final 2009
The dummy runs ( blocking) that created Jonny’s tries v Northampton
That tackle on Hogg for Ireland that ultimately won us the Championship
His reaction to Henshaw clinching try in Chicago
So many more but those 5 just came to mind
A gentleman and a true warrior

Jamie said in his statement, he hoped he'd left the number 8 jersey in a better place, than when he got it. Take it from the fans, dude, you did - and then some!!!!

And I'm STILL disappointed for him. Brilliant player.
All said otherwise really.
Just this- he was great player, never really fully appreciated outside of Leinster. But that’s what made him special to us.

Jamie you've played for the Blue.
Jamie you've played for the Green.
Jamie you've walked on water for both.
Jamie when next you look in a mirror you will see a Legend looking back.
Thanks for everything.

One of the true greats of the game, the stats above testify to this.
He was world class in 2004 when he was nominated for the Junior World Player of the year and world class when he was nominated for World Player of the year in 2016 and every year in between.
Celtic League Dream Team 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011
World Rugby Player of the Year nominee: 2009, 2016
EPCR European Player of the Year nominee: 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015
Under-21 World Player of the Year nominee 2004
The 1000th player to wear the green of Ireland.
A magnificent career.
Thank you Jamie

Yep disappointed for him ok... but I was surprised when I recently heard he might have been back in next few weeks...
From a selfish Leinster Rugby perspective though, we are probably better stocked with back rows than any other department& I have no doubt that Heaslip was at least partially instrumental in their development...

Well done son - you should be very proud of yourself. Thanks for the memories.

Re: Heaslip retiring
Trying to not go on here in lent, but have to break that for this news. Unlike others I’m completely shocked. I know the long period out was unusual and didn’t bode well, but I just saw him as kind of invincible and thought he would see it off. I was shocked he missed the England game, never mind this.
The try v France stands out for me, but he was just so consistent whoever he payed for. Those were his greatest abilities: 1. Adaptability. He could adjust to whatever style was needed to win a game - hard carries? Breakdown? Lineout? Open game? Trench warfare? Didn’t make much difference to him. He could turn his hand to whatever was necessary on the day. 2. Availability. I’d say he was pencilled in for Japan and you just thought he’d be there, because he always was.
He talked the old line about hopefully leaving the jersey in a better place than he found it. No question about it, that has happened - he’s been a constant through our greatest ever era and leaves serious shoes to fill.

Re: Heaslip retiring
I'm not sure what was funny about Neil Best's selection, he was by some distance the form forward in Ireland in 06-07 and was brilliant against both South Africa and Australia in the Autumn Internationals
