Champions Cup 2018/19 free-to-air on TV3

Post by curates_egg »

I remember people on here who swallowed and regurgitated the IRFU's hard spin against this when Eamon Ryan first mooted it.
Maybe Ryan wasn't so daft after all. Let's see if the world comes crashing down on our heads without Sky and BT.

Perhaps you should have read the article. Its one game per round. Ryan was daft.

I did.

"The deal will see at least one match shown on Channel 4 and TV3 during each of the six pool stages and may also include some of the knock-out stages."

It's a foot in the door...or another foot in the door for me: I already get at least one game per round free on France 2, so I am clawing my way back to the good old days.
I generally go out to the pub for Leinster games (I am not attending). Some friends here have (illegal) packages that enable them (and me) to watch both BT or Sky Sports...but why make it so hard for fans?

Its not hard - subscribe to the channel(s) and they appear on your epg within minutes. You don't even have to leave the couch.

It is actually hard in Belgium.
You can do it by getting an illegal contract through an address domiciled in the UK or Ireland, which some of my mates do. There are a few rackets here that will do it for you. I'll let them at it tbh.
I wouldn't give my money to Murdoch either way...but that is a separate matter.

You lads having to subscribe to two different subscription-based channels is a bit much too.

Channel 4 is an odd one as they pretty much have no association with sport, ITV or BBC wouldve been better but it's a good move

Thats not really the case - they have a history of building audiences for sports that weren't there before. They then usually get outbid for those sports.

The were the first with American Football in the UK for example, and their Italian Soccer programming became legendary. They also had the cricket test match terrestrial rights for a while and they currently have terrestrial rights for F1.

And, of course, who can forget Kabbadi!

Cycling (most of us watched Roche win his Tour de France, with Phil Ligget and Gary Imlach) before it was cool to like it or, subsequently, hate it.
Horse racing.

Cycling does fit in with their drug based dramas

Dont think rugby is coming in from left field like NFL or Italian soccer. The sports (coverage) mentioned mostly from a long time ago or has a very weak potential for new fans eg horse racing

Great if they are covering the away games. Not so great if they are just covering home games.

Schoolmates of mine back in the day 'played' it. Usually ended up killing each other!

Theres a new documentary made by BT Sports about Channel 4's Italian football coverage.
