Who is your Leinster Young Player of Year?
I know the season isn't finished but it's season award not a last month of the year award so i'm defining young as 23 and younger:
Options:
Jordan Larmour(20) - 16 caps, 7 tries.
James Ryan(21) - 11 caps.
Dan Leavy(23) - 12 caps, 3 tries.

Re: Who is your Leinster Young Player of Year?
Very hard to pick a winner, I would say Leavy and Ryan have probably shaded Jordan for consistency (even with fewer Leinster apps) and obviously were more involved in the Ireland Slam.
Other '23 and under' guys to have kicked on really well are Nick McCarthy, Ross Byrne (well, at least in the early part of the season), Max Deegan and Josh Murphy. If we were to extend the age category to 24 for front rows (seems fair enough) we could also include the Byrne twins.

All those would be on a level below of the 3 listed IMO.neiliog93 wrote:Very hard to pick a winner, I would say Leavy and Ryan have probably shaded Jordan for consistency (even with fewer Leinster apps) and obviously were more involved in the Ireland Slam.

Yes they certainly would. I suppose in a normal year they might have a shout of winning a young player award.

Re: Who is your Leinster Young Player of Year?
Considering how Leavy bossed the Saracens game I’d lean there.
I think he had one of the biggest impacts in the whole squad on our season.
Ryan has come on strong later in the year whereas Leavy has produced all year.
Larmour while scintillating needs to show a big defensive shift to be considered as well balanced as the other two.

I think Ryan's impact on the team is probably greater, in that the 2nd row was an area of concern in previous seasons. Very hard to argue against Leavy though, he has been superb.

For me it's Ryan - see ERCC and 6 Nations - hands down.

Re: Who is your Leinster Young Player of Year?
Funnily enough, in terms of impact to rugby in Ireland this year I would put them in order of Leavy first, then Ryan and then Jordan. But here's the thing......Leavy's been here for a couple of years now while the other boys are still in the academy and on that basis have excelled above and beyond. Also, the majority of the good stuff Ryan has done has been for Ireland so far so on that basis, and the basis it's a Leinster award (ie not a national award), I have gone with Larmour.

Andrew Porter (16 apps, 0 tries)
Garry Ringrose (7 apps, 2 tries)

Except I'm pretty sure Garry and Joey have scored in Europe no?
He's gotten awfully fond of that brick

I was taking a short cut by copying and pasting the end of each sentence and forgot to change the tries

Wow! That's some team. You could put that out in the pro14 v all but the best and expect to win more than you lost.mildlyinterested wrote:Leinster u23 XV:

Wonder how many of them will be part of Ireland's 30 man squad post RWC 2019.mildlyinterested wrote:Leinster u23 XV:

Ross Molony and Ross Byrne might be the two least likely.
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall who's the greatest player of them all? It is Drico your majesty.
Re: Who is your Leinster Young Player of Year?
Porter, he’s only been a tighthead for 10 minutes.

Re: Who is your Leinster Young Player of Year?
Brutally put I've picked Leavy because he won't be eligible next Season and Fardy will probably get Player of the Season this year.
However, Ryan, Larmour, Carbery and Porter have hopefully got 4/5 more VIP fixtures to change the minds of selectors!

8 ex-Michael's including 5 of the pack and the half backs...yes I am biased, but I would highlight any club or school that had that sort of output.johng wrote:Wow! That's some team. Re: Who is your Leinster Young Player of Year?
Leavy is also in the serious running for overall Leinster Player of the Year along with...
Healy, Furlong, Fardy and Luke (who has been smoking hot pre-injury)
Robbie was great either side of his injuries but off the pitch
Lowe is a curate's egg...but not worthy of shortlist in a truncated season and with his defensive f*rts. I am nonetheless in favour his selection in the biggest matches.
