Next Leinster Captain?

Post by COYBIB »

Sexton seems like the obvious choice, but I'm wondering if Leo would want to burden him with all the additional media work and pressure that goes with the label.

I think when the likes of McLoughlin and Nacewa were picked as captains, a major factor was that they'd be around for most of the season, particularly when the internationals are away, and it helped that they were starting players (or thereabouts for McLoughlin) when selected.

Those types of players in the Leinster squad? Fardy, Ruddock, Gibson-Park, Lowe, McFadden... you'd have to say Ruddock is the pick of the bunch.

If it is a more established player but not Sexton, Luke McGrath has captained all the way up through the age grades, is fairly nailed on at the moment for Leinster and is a fringe international player, so he could have a case.

McGrath would be a wonderful choice. He has the ability and the nous to be a good captain.

Rob Kearney; his time has come.

Forget about this leading when the big dogs are away. We have plenty of people to do that. We need calmness- let Sexton do his barking without baggage. We can manage work through the sticky periods around internationals- but we need to think of who leads us in Europe and inter-pros.

Fardy as kearney and sexton will miss games due to welfare programme. Fardy to be club captain and possibly sexton to captain in champions cup fixtures.

not sure what 2009 has to do with it..

think it was more of an indication that those two are vice-captains.
