I assume that next season's academy will be announced soon?

Fairly sure our mate Mildly has unofficially announced it already. Sure they must be in training already

rumours that nucifora has final approval and thats causing the delay....cormac wrote:I assume that next season's academy will be announced soon?
Re: Academy 2018/2019
Academy contracts were signed and finalised months ago for most of the incoming class. Might be one or two offered now based on the JWC but most of the Leinster players at the tournament knew their contract status one way or another going into it.

Of course the players know, the question is why they haven't announced the academy officially yet.Workhorse wrote:Academy contracts were signed and finalised months ago for most of the incoming class. Noel McNamara announced as new leinster academy manager.

Contracts are signed too late for "final approval" the "delay" is simply that Leinster announce their academy late.mildlyinterested wrote:rumours that nucifora has final approval and thats causing the delay....cormac wrote:I assume that next season's academy will be announced soon?

Re: Academy 2018/2019
https://www.independent.ie/sport/rugby/ ... 52737.htmlNoel McNamara has been named as the new Academy Manager for Leinster.
Recently, Peter Smyth left the post to become the Irish Rugby Football Union's Head of Elite Player Development.
This left an important vacancy in the Leinster organisation and McNamara has accepted the offer to maintain the production of professional players for Leo Cullen’s senior squad.
The Clare man has just finished a two-year contract as head coach to the Ireland U20s, guiding them through two Six Nations and World Cup campaigns.
The highlight of his tenure was this season’s glorious Grand Slam, Ireland’s first since 2007.
It is not yet clear whether McNamara will extend his Ireland U20 contract to combine both roles or give a total commitment to the new post in the Academy.

Re: Academy 2018/2019
Leinster U20 team based on performances for Ireland U20:
1. Michael Milne - solid campaign getting 8 caps mostly off the bench, will need to improve fitness & scrummaging. some confusion around eligibility status for next season.
2. John McKee - solid campaign getting 9 caps mostly off the bench, but needs to improve in core aspects to cement his place as prospect of note, eligible again next season.
3. Tom Clarkson - excellent campaign, looks a top prospect will need to put on more bulk but looks to have it. eligible again next season.
4. Ryan Baird - excellent campaign, capable of playing 6 or lock.. looks a potential star.
5. Charlie Ryan - excellent campaign, not a flashy player but a typical TH lock will be interested to see how he progresses.
6. Martin Moloney - missed JWC, but was a key member of grand slam win, interested to see where he plays going forward 6 or 7. some confusion around eligibility status for next season.
7. Scott Penny - missed JWC, star player of grand slam win, should feature heavily for leinster next season.
8. Brian Deeny - played lock and number 8, not sure if he has a long term future at 8, eligible again next season.
9. Cormac Foley - played 9 in 6 nations but was required at 12 during JWC, where he flashed his natural ability, needs to focus on a position and play a lot there next season.
10. Harry Byrne - missed JWC and end of 6 nations, potential long term replacement for Sexton.
11. Rob Russell - made 8 appearances on the wing and fullback, looked solid but unspectacular.
12. David Hawkshaw - impressed in his three games in 6 nations, interested to see where he plays upon return from injury.
13. Liam Turner - a key member of squad playing every minute of every game, interested to see if he settles at centre or moves back to the wing.
14. Aaron O'Sullivan - made 1 appearance on poor field against england, looked strong in air. Needs a big season next season.
15. Max O'Reilly - made 2 appearances, looked good in attack but ropey positionally, eligible again next season.

Re: Academy 2018/2019
Good summary and useful reference points. I'd include Adam LaGrue in the listing. Having been a relative late inclusion in first JWC Squad of 31, based on excellent AIL performances for Terenure, he disappeared off the radar when replacements were called in to JWC.mildlyinterested wrote:Leinster U20 team based on performances for Ireland U20:

Rumoured to have impressed Stuart L, but instructed to put on sufficent poundage (+4 or 5kg) to survive the rigours further up the line - he weights in below 80 kg, was in Sub-Academy but may not be included in initial Academy listing. Competing with Turner and Hawkshaw at 12 or 13, his probable best position is 13.
However, IMO, Turner is ahead at present and does not have the top-end pace to play wing, so I would expect to see him get time at 13, although both positions will be crowded next season with O'Brien(s), Mullan, Hawkshaw, Turner, Tomane, RO'L etc. Competitive Squad so nothing guaranteed. With Henshaw & Ringrose nailed on starters but missing till mid-November at least, there will lots of combinations tried in Pro14 & A games.

Re: Academy 2018/2019
never seen La Grue play for 20's so didn't include him.
would be surprised if he made it further given how light he is even with another 5kg added.

Re: Academy 2018/2019
Saw some of La Grue playing AIL this season, made some contracted players look silly at times with ball in hand, didn't seem to be a weak link in defence either.
Hope he doesn't fall down the "you need to get bigger" rabbit hole as as we've seen with many players that extra size isn't always the way to go.
Got unlucky in that he's not really a 12 and it seemed that every injury the 20s got was at 12 and Turner was brilliant at 13

Re: Academy 2018/2019
That’s pretty light. I always thought of Eoin O’Malley as being light for a 13 but he was 90kg. Could LaGrue play on the wing?
