Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
Looking at a few scoring stats recently it's very noticeable in recent season how much we've started pushing for tries instead of kicking penalties.
In Leo's first season (2015/16) penalties kicked made up 33% of Leinster's points total for the season. That was fairly standard compared to all other seasons since the game went open. Up to that point the low was 25% and the highest being 41%.
In the last three seasons the drop-off has been pretty spectacular.
2016/17 - 13%
2017/18 - 16%
2018/19 - 9%
We're averaging less than one successful penalty kick per match this season (28 from 29 games) and while that might increase across the rest of the season it's unlikely to buck the trend of recent seasons. The change coincides with the arrival of Lancaster but I wonder if we're just following a trend in the sport or whether he's completely changed the mindset at the club?

Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
Very interesting. I remember one match in particular early last season against Edinburgh at home and we kept going to the corner when easy three points were on offer, Sean Cronin and then Bryan Byrne were having a woeful day of it and we kept losing the lineout (I think we might have lost 7 or 8 during the match). There was very much a feel of Leinster having decided they would go to the corner every chance they had before the game started and the score would not change this process. We nearly lost the game over it but practice makes perfect as they say.cormac wrote:Looking at a few scoring stats recently it's very noticeable in recent season how much we've started pushing for tries instead of kicking penalties.

Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
Leinster Rugby is delighted to confirm that Season Ticket sales for the province’s 2019/20 campaign have surpassed the 12,000 mark.
A very high number of renewals, coupled with the unprecedented speed of sales once the public sale opened has seen Season Tickets sell at a record rate.
Season Ticket holders have packed out the RDS Arena and Aviva Stadium on several occasions this season, with games against Munster, Wasps, Connacht, Ulster and Toulouse all selling out.

Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
I see over on MF that Donnacha Ryan’s contract hasn’t been extended in Paris.
Considering he was close to coming here before I’d certainly take him as a one year stopgap replacement for Mick Kearney!

With Robin McBryde coming from Wales, do you not think that's a large enough injection of "alien culture" to assimilate in one season?wixfjord wrote:I see over on MF that Donnacha Ryan’s contract hasn’t been extended in Paris.

Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
Surprisingly mixed reaction to Donnacha Ryan being available on the MFans' forum, would definitely love to him at Leinster for a season or two. He came through late enough and is a lock so should be good until 37ish.

Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
Great player of course but it would unbalance the rotation. We already have Toner, Fardy and Ryan. One of them misses the matchday squad for the big games. The incremental gain from him would be slight.neiliog93 wrote:Surprisingly mixed reaction to Donnacha Ryan being available on the MFans' forum, would definitely love to him at Leinster for a season or two. He's too elite and expensive for our requirements.
