Leinster Squad 19-20

Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
6'6" is about the average for a top level lock. Not 'tall' or dominant like the big units such as Etzebeth, de Jager, Skelton etc., but more than enough for an athletic, agile top level second row.
"This is breathless stuff.....it's on again. Contepomi out to Hickie,D'Arcy,Hickie.......................HICKIE FOR THE CORNER! THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today's IT has an excellent article by John O'Sullivan about the current crop of tall Irish players. As usual, a well researched and readibleverye article.

Theres potentially more talent in the last 3 U20s combined than the previous 10+ years combined. Deeny and Ahern starting currently come from places that might have slipped through the net in previous years. Eoin O'Connor is another like that in the squad. Big bonus having these new talent streams.

Hate to disagree with such an astute commentator. However, I think you'll find on analysis that the Squads which won a few 6N competitions and a Grand Slam was well represented in the U.20 RWC Squads from 2009 - 2019.dropkick wrote:Ruckedtobits wrote:Today's IT has an excellent article by John O'Sullivan about the current crop of tall Irish players. Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
Yeah, it's a tad hyperbolic. The squad that went to the 2012 Junior World Cup has produced 11 Ireland internationals (+ 1 Canada international). And that doesn't even include Paddy Jackson who played in the 6N that year but didn't go to the tournament.Ruckedtobits wrote:Hate to disagree with such an astute commentator. For the record the 11 players are Niall Scannell, Tadhg Furlong, Tadhg Beirne, Iain Henderson, Josh vd Flier, Jack Conan, Kieran Marmion, Luke McGrath, Jack Carty, Chris Farrell and Stuart Olding. Peter Nelson played for Canada in the last RWC.
Other players from that squad who've made a decent career are Alan O'Connor, Barry Daly and JJ Hanrahan.
Look out Itchy, he's Irish

I ment secondrows only. I should have clarified it. Since POC (1979) retired we've had Donn Ryan ( born 1983) Toner (1986), Henderson (1992) and J Ryan (1996) as our top locks. After that there's not too many pushing them.
We've had plenty of capped locks who came via ancestry or residency like Roux, Kleyn, Treadwell etc.
In the last 3 U20s there has been Jack Dunne, Charlie Ryan, Baird, Ahern, Deeny, Joe McCarthy etc who have good potential. Baird is already being fast tracked like J Ryan.

Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
Actually I’ll put Ronan Kelleher there instead of Lee Barron and put Barron on the bench, Kelleher is playing fantastic at the moment and he’s very youngPilotman123 wrote:Potential Leinster Team for 2023?

I like your right leg. A lovely leg for the role.
I've got nothing against your right leg.
The trouble is ... neither have you

He also seems to be expecting coronavirus to kill off half of our current squad in the next 3 years. The Doc wrote:Wrong threadPilotman123 wrote:Potential Leinster Team for 2023?
