Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
With O'Brien gone and Leavy not back until the 2020 season, and with Penny still very raw, are we going to have to sign a 7 for next season? Would we get permission? VDF will be gone for much of the year, and Deegan is an 8...

I wouldn't expect to see a non-IQ 7 signed anyway.CiaranIrl wrote:With O'Brien gone and Leavy not back until the 2020 season, and with Penny still very raw, are we going to have to sign a 7 for next season? Would we get permission? VDF will be gone for much of the year, and Deegan is an 8...

We will still have Connors, Penny, JVDF and Deegan when needed. That should be sufficient.mildlyinterested wrote:I wouldn't expect to see a non-IQ 7 signed anyway.CiaranIrl wrote:With O'Brien gone and Leavy not back until the 2020 season, and with Penny still very raw, are we going to have to sign a 7 for next season? I can't imagine that Leinster went looking for Cian Kelleher. It has the look of an IRFU orchestrated move similar to Fionn Carr.

Only by RTB! Maybe the deal hinges on whether they stay up or not?Grumpy Old Man wrote:Thought Noel Reid to Leicester was confirmed?
If there is a get out clause then I hope he takes it, things are just too uncertain there right now.

Wonder if their potential relegation changes anything, hard to know.

Indeed, he'll be sorely missed. I've been really impressed with his leadership this season and really seemed to be delivering on all that promise from a few years ago. Best of luck Noel.hugonaut wrote:A black day.cormac wrote:Noel's move to Leicester has now been confirmed.

Really sorry to see him go but I do wish him great success and hopefully bags of cash. Can't help but look at him now and think "Where has this Noel Reid been for the last number of years?" Had he been playing like this (especially with his versatility) he would have been knocking on the door for Ireland, at least as a bench option. Great shame really!hugonaut wrote:A black day.cormac wrote:Noel's move to Leicester has now been confirmed.
Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
The Irish Giteau. We will miss him, he played a fair whack of rugby for us and became an unsung hero. Another piece of our depth and experience eroded. I wish him massive success with Leicester he certainly deserves it.

He sounds like just the type of player we need, we seem to be lacking leaders on the park.
Re: Leinster Squad 19-20
This has been his best season, imo. Sorry to see him go

Me too, I wish him nothing but the best. I have become very fond of Reider over the last couple of years, and his form this year has been the best of his career. He has been an absolute joy to watch. I suppose that he's a bit of a late-maturer, rugby-wise. He has taken on much more authority in games this season, but hasn't become overly cautious – if anything he has become more more adventurous in tactical terms, and more confident in his abilities.LeinsterLeader wrote:Really sorry to see him go but I do wish him great success and hopefully bags of cash.hugonaut wrote:A black day.cormac wrote:Noel's move to Leicester has now been confirmed.
His defending over the last three seasons improved out of all recognition, which was a big personal achievement. He was a weak tackler for the first few years of his career, but he took the bull by the horns and made himself into a competent defender. Taking on goal-kicking duties again was another notable step this season, and a solo accomplishment: he was a super goal-kicker as an age-grade player, but hadn't actually kicked a goal in his senior career for Leinster at first class level until this season.
I think the fact that he played so many matches in the RDS has endeared him to season-ticket holders. We don't have an awful lot of players who are always available for selection - there's always lots of international call-ups, or else guys miss months on end with injuries. Reider never seemed to pick up bad injuries, and he wasn't often in international squads. He was generally available for selection, so we saw a lot of him in the RDS.
In past seasons, there were some games where you'd despair of him, but other games where he showed flashes of genuine brilliance. This season it's been pretty much all brilliance! I think that he's played this season like a player who has psychologically unburdened himself ... maybe he decided early on that he was going to look for a move away, rather than only ever playing in his home town, and that freed him up.
Anyway, I hope he finishes up the season with a flourish, and wish him all the best at Leicester.

He'll be joined in Leicester by Jaco Taute who leaves Munster after joining on a short term contract in 2016.
