Re: Leinster v Toulouse
Given our lack of Lowe & Henshaw, I think Touloise have the edge at 9, 12, 11 & 14.
Our forwards must take theirs to the wood shed and beat them up before releasing our backs.
Paddy Power calling it an 11 point game.
Jack Mc on the 'Baz & Andrew's House of Rugby Podcast' referenced how bad the Toulouse pitch was. Said it was like scrummaging on gravel just below the grass level. Said we can hurt their pack if we keep the tempo up. Not sure I get that.

Re: Leinster v Toulouse
Maybe the reason Sexton was so annoyed at the Munster match was because he knew he had picked up an injury which would affect his participation in the european games.

it's all speculation until team is announced on friday, unless they rule him out today.
going to be a long week.
going to be a long week.
Re: Leinster v Toulouse
Think fitness will be an issue and that is what he's referrring too - in the last 15-20 mins if it's tight - our pack will be able to keep tempo up for 80 mins and not sure Toulouse can live with that. Interesting to hear the comments re pitch in Tootlose - just shows the benefits of being at home and being used to what you are playing on and conditions.backrower8 wrote:Given our lack of Lowe & Henshaw, I think Touloise have the edge at 9, 12, 11 & 14.

Re: Leinster v Toulouse
We lost the game in Toulouse by a single point having made a very slow start and having conceded an intercept try late in the game. I can't see us making the same mistakes again and with home advantage I think Leinster will win. A bonus point win and preventing Toulouse from getting a bonus point would be perfect but may not happen on the night.

Or maybe his childish approach from the start finally hit home to him that his attitude permeated through the whole team and was the difference between just playing rugby or trying to wind up carbery for 80 mins.Angelsea Angst wrote:Maybe the reason Sexton was so annoyed at the Munster match was because he knew he had picked up an injury which would affect his participation in the european games.

U could be right but he came across as a complete d*** that night. Didn't win himself any admirers with that carry on. Knew he played on the edge but if we saw that from another outhalf we would be saying it wouldn't be tolerated at Leinster. But onto Toulouse, hoping he playing on sat because he's still the best 10 Europe by a distance when he's on it. Fingers crossed.

thought sexton coming off against munster was more about the game time management than injury. As an aside...thought frawley did well on sat....as did conor o brien. max deegan has always been a favourite of mine but I hear he is rumoured to be off to ulster next seasoncarlow man wrote:Might be thou. Re: Leinster v Toulouse
They were very clear that his time was managed and his going off was a preplanned sub at that time. Doesn't mean he's playing this weekend, but it's unrelated to his substitution.
As for keeping the pace up, that's the conventional wisdom with French packs. Used to work a treat, for example when we spanked Clermont in Lansdowne Road, but not so sure it does any more. Racing look capable of living with it.

Re: Leinster v Toulouse
Toulouse have not lost since 29th September. 13 matches.
Have won away to Bath, Perpignan, Pau, Wasps & Agen.
Have only lost 2 in all competitions this season, both in September in Top 14, one with their 2nd string playing. Clermont the only other Top 14 to have lost just 2 matches.
Got a 20-20 draw away to Clermont with their 2nd string side. Tonked Toulon 39-0 only 2 weeks ago.
Their backs are lethal, full of flow and innovation where needed, with Dupont (my main concern), Huget and Kolbe all wordl class and firing (with Kaino not too shabby either). Our backs are almost ramshackle by comparison - at least we are not firing or likely to fire on all cylinders given form and makeshift requirements.
We are world class at 1, 3, 5, 7 (whoever plays), 10 & 13. Forwards win matches...especially this one.

Re: Leinster v Toulouse
It's going to be a really interesting selection this week.
As I said in another thread I'd go with Noel and Garry in midfield, Adam and ROL on the wings, and Larmour on the bench. I know that won't happen but I just don't like Larmour on the left (rare as it's been) and think the others are all in good form. Regardless of the other selections I'd definitely start Adam because his ability in the air could be really important if we're struggling to break them down (or if we just want to put pressure on their back three with the crowd roaring for box kicks) and need an alternative to just running them off their feet, don't think that will work on them as well as it has against French teams in the past.
I'm slightly concerned that Toner and Leavy are carrying injuries after they missed the last two games but assuming they're fit then there are serious decisions to be made. I hadn't really thought about Fardy at 6 but CiaranIRL has convinced me that we'll see that. Then we could have Ruddock and Leavy on the bench. No matter who is selected our forward subs should be really strong, and JGP (assuming he doesn't start) will give us an impact at 9 that we haven't always been able to call upon in Europe. For all the talk of Treacy, I think he usually steps up in big games and am hopeful that his performance in Thomond was a blip.

Re: Leinster v Toulouse
I actually think it might have worked on them a couple of months ago (they were ragged against Bath and struggled when we resourced rucks and were patient) but reckon they've improved since then, thought they were very well organised and smart for large parts of the Wasps game in Coventry.fourthirtythree wrote:They were very clear that his time was managed and his going off was a preplanned sub at that time. Re: Leinster v Toulouse
If we were in Toulouse's position, would we be happy with a losing bonus point on Saturday and deny Leinster a bonus point win? We have gone to France before and been happy to come away with a point. Do they go full bore for Saturday or take a point and look to get 5 points at home v bath the following weekend?
