No sign of Scott Penny.
Penny is with the Ireland U20s and unlikely to be released.
IRFU policy is that Pro14 takes precedence over u20s

Only that's its not a policy. It was a viewpoint agreed between Eddie Wigglesworth and Ulster on two occasions and criticised by the National Game Board in each instance. Several Rugby writers thereafter referred to this 'convention' as policy. It was never " policy ", but if you make a federal case of how significant the player is for the success of the Province, you might get approval to play an U.20 in a Pro14 game ahead of a 20's international.

But nobody should try this. Why screw up an entire Squad of age-grade players, who could make their own history and get hugely important experience, just because you can?

It is policy and has been for years. All four provinces have pulled players from the u20s 6 Nations squad on a number of past occasions (Henshaw, Olding, we even pulled Conway for a game against Aironi!). The purpose of age grade rugby is to prepare players for senior rugby. Senior rugby takes precedence.

Munster would of course, but have they?

Oh and a start for Leinster is valuable to an age grade player and their career arc. Thats something that should be taken into account.

Munster don’t play their youth players until they hit mid 20s. They then wonder why they don’t develop as quickly as Leinster players.

They make a request to the IRFU, not for the release of the player from the under 20 squad, but for a medical joker on a "short term" (stop laughing at the back) deal.

Cooney is starting for Ulster tonight. Might we see some of our benched players or is it unlikely since there's travel involved?

Porter was training with team on Monday, so it's possible we might see him.

No sign of Larmour though. Jack Mc was there though.

Scott Penny training with 20's in Lansdowne, so he won't be at 7 for Leinster this weekend.

Porter not with Ireland today so hopefully he is starting for us, same with Jack Mc and Ruddock.

I know we don't have any 7s and there's a good chance that the flankers will just play left and right, but I really don't like that Deegan always seems to be the one shifted around. In some ways it's a compliment because they must see him as being athletic and skillful enough to be versatile, but IMO he's really just an 8 and I think that moving him around will stunt his development. SOB should be playing IMO, he was gassed after half an hour last week.

I know it's highly unlikely that Adam will make the squad for the Italy game but I'd love if he did, would love to see one of the wingers rested and him play on the right.

Down to the bare bones in the back-row. I assume the plan is to switch Fardy in there at some stage.

Really strange that Penney isn't available. Presumeably Rhys is down to captain Ireland next week.

I’d imagine if Dunne had to come on Fardy might go to six

POM has a lot of minutes this year and seems to have been in the wars injury wise, I wouldn’t be surprised if he got a rest.
