Re: Zebre v Leinster Sat 2.30 Eir
Looking forward to see Barry Daly - had a great showing last time out.
Re: Zebre v Leinster Sat 2.30 Eir
With Toner, McGrath and McCarthy out I can't see Jlo getting much meaningful gametime for the rest of this season.
Might I suggest he moves to another province. The papers would all agree that this would make sense, "for everyone".

You know I'm going to lose,
And gambling's for fools,
But that's the way I like it baby, I don't want to live FOREVER!

Surely Lowe and Tomane are in the conversation too? What a hirsute back 3 that'd be!the spoofer wrote:Best hair in the Pro14 bar none.tingman wrote:Looking forward to see Barry Daly - had a great showing last time out.

Don't agree. I'm delighted that Leo recognises that giving the National U.20 Squad their best shot at the 6 Nations is more important than how much we win by in Zebre.wixfjord wrote:Really strange that Penney isn't available. Presumeably Rhys is down to captain Ireland next week.

Zebre are good at home. Penny misses out on a precious Leinster start (Connors is coming back so competition will be tougher) to train with the 20s. He could have played for us and been rested against Italy U20 if necessary.Ruckedtobits wrote:Don't agree. We play an unbalanced experimental back row. With an uncapped academy lock covering the backrow.
Re: Zebre v Leinster Sat 2.30 Eir
The unwritten rules of moving backrow players for Leinster in the pro era.
1 Heaslip plays 8
2 If there are 2 7s, the less specialized moves
3 Good players can play out of position, pecking order is not important.
Deegan playing 7 is consistent with him being highly rated, not vice- versa.

I don't think it's a bad thing that we use him sparingly given that he's so young, he's arguably had too much senior/A rugby already. People can disagree with that but hopefully he'll have more than a decade of making tackles and taking punishment in rucks, so I'm happy to make do with what we've got tomorrow.
That would take us up to 2030, my brain finds that hard to comprehend.

Yeah, k heard that, but does anyone know any more? Like, he's been out ages, and no more information on possible return date / surgery etc.cormac wrote:He has a calf injuryCiaranIrl wrote:Has anyone any information on what the deal is with Leavy?

Yep, pretty much.
Would Penney playing this week mean he couldn't play against Italy the week after?
I don't think so.
And even if it did, if our U20s can't beat Italy without him then we have a problem.
It is a weird one no matter which way you look at it. Before, U20 players have been pulled from squads to play league games on the weekends of matches. In this case, Penney wouldn't even miss an U20 game.

Match Preview
Three week ago, when Leinster were last in action, Irish rugby was in a much sunnier mood.
Now though it's in a more uncertain place after a bad home defeat by England followed by a scratchy win in Scotland. But for Leinster it's business as usual as they have a three match run over the Six Nations period and they've been fortunate with the teams they're facing as they're three of the lowest placed in the competition. Over the next two Fridays in the RDS, they take on the two South African franchises in the Southern Kings (last in Conference B) and then the Cheetahs (second last in Conference A), But first up this Saturday is a trip to Italy to take on Zebre (last in Conference A) who have won just the three games this season.

Would it premature to say that COB should captain Ireland next week?
