In France and South Africa the numbers are reversed for some reason, the openside wears 6 and the blind wears 7

I think it's something to do with the rotation of the earth
yea magnetic fields and the like...
It's actually to do with the position of the sun in the sky - remember it's it the south here but in the north there - suddenly it all falls into place and makes sense.
