can't see any mention in the Irish press.
It's on breakingnews.ie, although they may have just thieved the article from the BBC. I've heard from a decent source that O'Connell ducked out of the reception at Áras an Uachtaráin early in order to catch a flight to Heathrow.

Lions team captain announced

Post by jimigiller »

I see the Guardian has announced POC as captain. Pity, really think Drico deserved it, apart from what happened on his last captaincy, the pure balls to score of those rucks against England and Wales won both those games. Geech going for a more imposing/heavier captain in POC?

Jebus you lot are chippy!

p.s. Pic came from front page of MF.COM, who have the ability, at least in part, not to take themselves too seriously.

Delighted the Irish back row all got selected. Delighted for Quinlan who I think really put his hand up. Delighted for O'Connell who is a deserving captain. Delighted for Kearney and Fitz who had to get selected while playing in back lines that weren't going very well. Delighted for Earls - he will bring the fearlessness of youth.
Ithink Irish players got the benefit of a few close calls there. So I'm happy all round.

i dont think a reserve list is ever released, i think they just give the players a shout when they need them. Sure wasnt someone drafted in from their holidays in Australia at the end of the last tour?
