Lions lock Hines cited

British and Irish Lions lock Nathan Hines faces a disciplinary hearing today after being cited for alleged foul play in the 13-13 with the Emergins Springboks last night.

The Australia-born Scotland international has been cited for an alleged dangerous tackle on opposite number Wilhelm Steenkamp during the game in Cape Town.

The incident went unpunished by referee Alain Rolland but the match citing commissioner has now made a complaint.

Under the Lions' tour agreement in South Africa, the citing commissioner has a 12-hour window to report any incidents or foul play.

Hines is the first Lions player to face possible disciplinary action, with two games remaining on the 10-match tour.

Hines is an outside candidate to make the Lions' match-day 22 against the Springboks in Saturday's second Test in Pretoria.

Hines will now appear before Canadian judicial officer Alan Hudson at the Western Province Rugby Union offices in Cape Town.

If found guilty, Hines is likely to miss the rest of the tour.

Nathan Hines has been handed a seven day ban for a dansgerous tackle in the second half of the 13-13 draw against the Emerging Springboks in Cape Town on Tuesday night.
it means the Perpignan and Scotland lock will miss the opportunity to be selected for the second Test, unless he can successfully appeal against the decision. He has 24 hours in which to lodge any appeal.
Hines was singled out by Citiing Commissioner Steve Hinds (New Zealand) for a dangerous tackle in the ninth minute of the second half at Newlands. He had a formal disciplinary hearing in front of Judicial Officer Alan Hudson (Canada) today.

The lower end scale of punishment for a dangerous tackle in ususlly two weeks, but Mr Hudson only ruled him o0ut for one week. That means he could come into contention for the thrid Test in Johannesburg next week.

Hines becomes the first player on the 2009 British & Irish Lions tour to suffer a disciplinary sanction.

Ridiculous citing!At what stage did the tackle become dangerous,nobody seemed to complain about the tackle at the time!!

I reckon he deserved it.He flipped him over and had no control over the player coming down so it was wreckless and could have caused some serious damage but a week is probably fair imo.

Double standards, If Hines deserves a ban so do at least 10 other lads during the midweek games for some outrageous tackling and late hits!
