Italian Team

Post by Donny B. »

Italy coach Nick Mallett has named a team featuring eight changes for their Six Nations clash with Ireland in Rome on Sunday.

Injuries to fly-half Andrea Marcato and lock Marco Bortolami have forced Mallett's hand somewhat but there are changes to every sector bar the front row.

Calvisano team-mates Luke Mclean and Paul Griffen will form an English-speaking half-back pair as Mauro Bergamasco moves back to the flank after last week's failed experiment at scrum-half. Skipper Sergio Parisse returns to the number eight jersey as a result.

Alessandro Zanni completes a new-look back row as Josh Sole drops to the bench

The younger Bergamasco brother, Mirko, shifts to outside centre from wing in the place of Gonzalo Garcia, giving Matteo Pratichetti a chance to start in the number eleven jersey.

Tommaso Reato is promoted from the bench to replace Bortolami in the second row as Carlo Antonio Del Fava enters the matchday 22.

Replacement back Andrea Bacchetti is the only uncapped player in the squad.
