Post by StrangeButBlue »

I think the rankings look about right after the Autumn international s apart from perhaps Wales

1(1) NEW ZEALAND 93.2
2(2) AUSTRALIA 87.45
3(3) SOUTH AFRICA 86.44
4(4) ENGLAND 82.48
5(7) IRELAND 81.79
6(5) FRANCE 81.66
7(6) SCOTLAND 81.2
8(8) ARGENTINA 78.97
9(9) WALES 77.04
10(10) FIJI 74.05
11(11) SAMOA 74.02
12(12) ITALY 73.31

Main point is that there is clear daylight (4 points) between the NH teams and the 6N with even home advantage not enough to make any 6N team a favourite. Eng are slightly ahead and France under LeaveYouBestPlayersOut are behind us.

Id swap Ireland and France but dont I see a problem with Wales (unless you'd drop them down to 10th), they look devoid of ideas and surprisingly lacking in skills.

Germany are going to rule the world one day.
All they need is to get the rest of us to buy into their way of doing things.
(Perhaps, NZ could give them a few pointers in that regard!)

We've dropped from 4th to 6th in the rankings.
We need to win a few of the warm up games.

I hope Argentina have a sh!te tournament, so that we at least hold onto our 8th place. C'mon England.
So we didn't need to win any of those warm ups - did we not?
WC points count for double.

Do ranking changed daily during the world cup or does it not change until after the tournament / group stages

no update since the 5th Sept

1(1) NEW ZEALAND 90.55
2(2) AUSTRALIA 88.84
3(3) SOUTH AFRICA 85.69
4(4) FRANCE 83.78
5(5) ENGLAND 82.89
6(6) WALES 80.79
7(7) SCOTLAND 78.83
8(8) IRELAND 78.50
9(9) ARGENTINA 78.40
10(10) SAMOA 74.54
Les chances que Sexton vienne en France sont infimes

Pretty much odds on the Argy will move above us after the weekend.

We will have moved a bit clear of them after this weekend though. The rankings do not update until later today.

If they beat Roumania by 15 and we lose to Oz by similar then yes.

I think their within 15 of England and our not over 15 v Eagles, doubled up, would have edged them ahead? Tbh though, I'm clueless as to how many points each of those are worth.

These IRB ranking points mean feck all IMO, would NZ trade places with us for more than one world cup victory in the history of the competition well most likely yes.

Me too. But they are doubled during the WC. and there is no "home" advantage for Arg or Ire.

AFAIK you cannot gain points if you lose or lose points if you win.

PM sent. I REALLY don't understand these things at all. We are on EXACTLY the same points as last week but Argentina are down over a point.

Do you get nothing for beating a team that are ranked more than 10 places lower or something?

I think if there's a big gap in the overall points between the two teams playing eachother (10 maybe), then if the higher placed team wins they gain zero and the lower team loses zero. Something like that..
In any case, we could have won by 100 points on Sun (ha ha ha) and it wouldn't make any difference to our ranking as the US are so far below us in the list.

I also have an excel file I used to use for working out rankings but then I found this and it's so much handier than having to do all the work yourself.
