Whilst our goose is being basted, it isn't entirely cooked yet. All thats left is stroke politics, and we're really good at that.

Surely walking down the road without being shot is a component of infrastructure? The murder rates at some of the venues is mind blowing. Maybe if we implement a racist selection policy we'll have more success next time.simonokeeffe wrote:shame there wasnt a category of fans being able to walk around the place safely
we should go again for 2027

The fixtures may have been organised a while ago but that doesn't mean the fixtures don't impact the vote, we could promise to send a full strength squad in exchange for their votes.ronk wrote:The 3 match tour that’s scheduled every 12 years as part of the revisions to the calendar a while back?

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland
Anyone know what the story with the votes is now? Do we still have some "in the bag" but the undecided ones will go with the recommendation?
Seems like we'll be fighting a losing battle going forward anyway but at least if SA gets it then we can try again soon after.

The twitter scuttlebutt is that Ireland have done a deal with Argentina over 2027

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland
A quick look at the report shows that in 6 of the 8 Irish venues a considerable amount of work has to be done to upgrade spectator facilities and telecommunication/journalist facilities and it specifically states that the fact that these works have to be done is a major risk factor leading to a lower grade for the Irish bid. So they didn't believe that all the GAA grounds/Thomond would be up to speed. They are probably right

It's like how you feel when you prepared for an exam and the other topics came up on the exam paper....
Re: RWC 2023: Ireland
They also managed to spell it Thomand Park a few times in the report. I'd be very surprised if the voting doesn't go with the recommendation.enby wrote:A quick look at the report shows that in 6 of the 8 Irish venues a considerable amount of work has to be done to upgrade spectator facilities and telecommunication/journalist facilities and it specifically states that the fact that these works have to be done is a major risk factor leading to a lower grade for the Irish bid. We might still be able to sleep with the lecturer though.brotheroffrank wrote:It's like how you feel when you prepared for an exam and the other topics came up on the exam paper....

“Tournament experience” is such a bullsh*t category. It runs directly contrary to their credo about expanding the game to new audiencesnc6000 wrote:Just had a quick look at the evaluation report https://www.worldrugby.org/news/291551 and it looks like infrastructure and tournament experience did for us in the end.
The overall rankings also happen to be in the same order as the tournament fees promised by each country.

Of the 5 criteria, we're bottom on 4 and in the middle on the remaining criterion. Not too encouraging.

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland
Given the stadia issue, suspect Ireland's only chance for a future bid is if they team up with the Welsh and the Scots.
Re: RWC 2023: Ireland
Ireland's stadia not much different in capacity to those used by New Zealandneill_m wrote:Given the stadia issue, suspect Ireland's only chance for a future bid is if they team up with the Welsh and the Scots.

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland
The fact that the stadia actually have fans in them should probably count for a something though. South Africa's games against Australia were nowhere near sold out. We all know about our game vs the Southern Kings!!!enby wrote:A quick look at the report shows that in 6 of the 8 Irish venues a considerable amount of work has to be done to upgrade spectator facilities and telecommunication/journalist facilities and it specifically states that the fact that these works have to be done is a major risk factor leading to a lower grade for the Irish bid. Even with this it's hard to understand how they came out ahead of France. France has the added benefit of facilitating movement of fans to to bars and restaurants without being robbed/beaten up/murdered. If we'd lost to France I'd be disappointed but kind of understand it. Losing to South Africa is difficult to accept I have to say!

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland
Capacity was not the issue, it was apparently the work needed to bring most of the bid stadia up to scratch, especially some of the gaa grounds.jimbobjoe wrote:Ireland's stadia not much different in capacity to those used by New Zealandneill_m wrote:Given the stadia issue, suspect Ireland's only chance for a future bid is if they team up with the Welsh and the Scots.
Re: RWC 2023: Ireland
Simple economics.
The SH needs the RWC, the Lions tours, Summer tours and AIs to survive financially.
The 6Ns is the financial gold mine every year.
The lions and rwc come around every fours.
The other tours keep things ticking over just about.
The NH haven't f^cked around with the fundamental and core attraction of rubgy - its' shear physical, atavistic attraction to the animal instinct in us all.
We learned that lesson from the Romans, creators of the most successful empire in human history to date.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall who's the greatest player of them all? It is Drico your majesty.
Re: RWC 2023: Ireland
To be fair South Africa hosted the soccer world cup only 7 years ago, so they have the stadia sitting there ready to. The crime rate in South Africa is the elephant in the room.

Re: RWC 2023: Ireland
I don't really get that, I'd have thought it was easily fixable. Transport or accommodation would be different because they'd be out of the bid's control to a degree, but surely we can guarantee the upgrades? That's one area I reckon we could work on before the vote. I don't doubt that our goose is cooked, but doing something like that may make people feel better about voting for us for political reasons instead of the actual bid.neill_m wrote:Capacity was not the issue, it was apparently the work needed to bring most of the bid stadia up to scratch, especially some of the gaa grounds.jimbobjoe wrote:Ireland's stadia not much different in capacity to those used by New Zealandneill_m wrote:Given the stadia issue, suspect Ireland's only chance for a future bid is if they team up with the Welsh and the Scots.
Re: RWC 2023: Ireland
Surely, NZ won't vote for them at the risk of them all getting the trupenny bits before the final again
