Will there be a third place play-off?

Edit : Just saw on their website that there will be.

Kinda surprising there's no English player on the short-list!
Must say that Emily Scarratt one should really have been on the list. Her and Alphonse have been outstanding.

Have Ireland actually had any ball in the second half?

I had a horrible feeling this would happen. England have been building for this longer than us and there was far too little talk about them.

Well done to the Irish Women on an excellent first 30 mins.

Unfortunately once the English got ahead they have been able to play a low-risk, highly competent, game plan and we don't have enough game breakers to cope with them. They will beat France in the Final.

Smart tactics by England to keep Briggs out of the game and kick to MLR. Jenny Murphy has been trojan in defence but we needed to see her with ball in hand going forward.

As they have proved in boxing "a good big 'un usually beats a good little 'un".

Gutted for the team yesterday. The set piece was just destroyed which meant we couldn't get a foothold. Actually thought our defence close in was very good for the most part and we targeted Alphonsi brilliantly. Unfortunately we just couldn't sustain that without having the ball and England were much much better at exposing us out wide than NZ were. No shame in losing to that England side. Can think of a couple of mistakes they made but in general they were excellent and they've some serious power throughout the team.

I read that this is the end of the road for many of our team. Fingers crossed they'll get loads more players on the back of this campaign.

I was at the game. The physical difference between the teams was really striking from where I was sitting. I haven't seen the stats but it looked like the English team had about a stone of muscle per woman on their opposite numbers for the most part. Once they sorted out their lineout they had loads of possession and it was hard for us to do much about it. Anyone who watched the match saw that the English 13 (Emily Scarratt) made hay and the 7 (Margaret Alphonsi) was like a female version of Sean O'Brien - excellent player.

Also interesting to watch the difference in kicking from the men's game. No Garryowens for the whole 80 minutes!

Final score 21/9

Canada played a great second half, England scored a late try but had to deserve her match.

Really beautiful WRWC!
