Congrats to Michael Cheika
Good to see his achievements with Leinster & the Waratahs rewarded with the Aussie job.
He brought a lot of hard professionalism to Leinster but faces a tough World Cup group with England & Wales. Good luck to him.

Well done cheika, for our sake I'm glad he didn't get Foley and Larkham for the AI's.

The right appointment for Australia
Has a proven record in creating the right environment for professionalism to prosper. He will make a job of Australia.

Poisoned chalice IMO, EM was making a good fist of it but his win ratio was only about 50%. He got a great bounce in his first few games (us incl.) but off field matters derailed the lot recently- no one over there is taking about the rugby with regards to his resigning. All Blacks nil wrote:The right appointment for Australia

As Matt williams says, it's hard to have a good winning ratio when the teams you play most are SA & NZ!
Hopefully Cheika will put the boot into the squad and sort out the off-field antics, but he is now playing with EM's squad and he probably doesn't have a lot of time to make many changes between now and the RWC (particularly in light of the fact that he has a S15 season to get through yet).

He has the personality and general sense of expediency to to get some off pitch reforms in with sense of panic pre RWC, 3rd coach in 18 months and general media stuff
Plus we know he knows to work with Curtly Beale
throw in a Honey Badger, a Pocock, an Irish hooker and things are looking up

Re: Congrats to Michael Cheika
Yeah, apparently EM was very involved in the Business management side of the ARU including grassroot development and cost analysis (the lads on green and gold were saying that they had actually calculated the overhead costs of their meetings down to the hourly rates assoc.), Cheika is not going to do that on a part time basis, so I'd say a team manager will be the first appointment.simonokeeffe wrote:hes staying as Tahs coach next year tooPeg Leg wrote: Poisoned chalice IMO, EM was making a good fist of it but his win ratio was only about 50%. Edit: G&G also did not give one iota of thought to playing Ireland in a schedule consisting of Baba's, Wales, France, Ireland & England! The b$&%@#ds, I hope we catch them off guard (however unlikely under MC).

Re: Congrats to Michael Cheika
thats part of where the alleged discord around Di Patston came in, going by ESPN articles the two were very close and she was being brought into non business rugby matters/lines were blurring, meant to have been involved int eam disciplinary stuff; cant see Cheika giving a hoot what tshirts guys wear on planesPeg Leg wrote:Yeah, apparently EM was very involved in the Business management side of the ARU including grassroot development and cost analysis (the lads on green and gold were saying that they had actually calculated the overhead costs of their meetings down to the hourly rates assoc.), Cheika is not going to do that on a part time basis, so I'd say a team manager will be the first appointment.simonokeeffe wrote:hes staying as Tahs coach next year tooPeg Leg wrote: Poisoned chalice IMO, EM was making a good fist of it but his win ratio was only about 50%. Re: Congrats to Michael Cheika
Cheika would be far worse, hes an absolute martinet when it comes to that kind of stuff. If Cheika had been in the Aussie job and Beale turned up in the wrong shirt, he would have been given his passport, had his plane ticket taken off him, and be left to make his own way home.simonokeeffe wrote: cant see Cheika giving a hoot what tshirts guys wear on planes
