Ireland v Barbarians

Post by cormac »

We're playing the Barbarians in Thomond Park on the 28th of May (two days before Pro12 Final). Should be plenty of Leinster players for the Munster faithful to cheer on.

indeed, lots of second and third string lads who won't be involved in the final
Declan Kidney is a incompetent, inept, provincially biased rugby dinosaur who is unfit to coach the Irish team.

Sure Glasgow don't have any Irish Internationals. And we can make do without the Ulster guys for the Babas.

Does anyone know if this is on telly?

I've had a gander around the interweb but all I can find is Sky showing the England v Barbarians match.
Alas I have little more than vintage wine and memories.....

Ulster players would be on a six-day turnaround, Munster players would be on a five-day turnaround, Connacht players would be on a four-day turnaround, and Joe likes the team to train together all week so we could be looking at pretty much an all-Leinster 23 for this game

in terms of available emigres

Farrell, Hart, Whitten, Steenson, Caldwell, McGuigan (Newcastle hooker), Court, Sheridan, TOl,

McGrath, Strauss, Ross, McCarthy tbc, Toner, Murphy, SOB, Heaslip
Reddan, Madigan, DK, Reid, Darcy, Whitten, RK

McGuigan, Bent, Furlong, 2 of Dippy/Conan/Ruddock, Boss, Farrell, Kelleher/TOL

second row looking very ropey especially if McCarthy and even Denton not fit, not even sure if Caldwell is fit

I must admit that a mischief-making part of me has been hoping that results would fall so that only the Leinster players would be available for this fixture.

Admit it, who else doesn't want to see Joe put out virtually the same team/squad as MOC has been using this season? Just to see....

Is it worth risking SOB for this one? He can be quite injury-prone.

I suppose players who bench for Ulster in their semi might be considered as subs for this if they were to lose.

Think I'd go for:
McGrath, Strauss, Ross, Toner, McCarthy, Ryan, Murphy, Heaslip, Boss, Madigan, Kelleher, Darcy, Reid, Kearney, Kearney; Herring/Dundon/Byrne, Bent, Furlong, Denton, Conan/Ruddock, Reddan/McGrath/Marshall, Marsh, O'Shea/Farrell/Scholes

If there were doubts over the fitness of McCarthy and/or Denton, Marshall and Moloney would probably be next in line

Would some second-string Munster guys like Luke O'Dea be available to Joe?

Will Reddan be fit for this? Was he injured when Leinster played Edinburgh?
