I think the problem here is the intent. I agree that there wasn't much in it but there could have been. If it happens in different circumstances then it might be a yellow card and could cost England a game in the RWC.

Okay can someone please tell me what this looks like to them?

Nigel Owens was the referee and he asked the players if they were finished and then told them they were acting very immature. That was the end of it - no citing, no disciplinary process and no ban. If that had been Hartley instead of Brown he'd probably have been blamed for the incident!

Oh and to whoever said Hartley called Barnes a cheating Cnut - no he didn't. He allegedly called him a f%~king cheat - there was no evidence other than Barnes' own word and Hartley maintained he was talking to Tom Youngs ,who he accused of deliberately collapsing the scrum, and not to the referee!

Btw, if he did call Barnes a cheat how many here would say it was a lie!

The footage is pretty obvious that Hartley aimed it at Barnes (although you don't see/hear him say cheat). Barnes had also warned Hartley about saying things to him or making any comments that Barnes might even think were aimed at him, then there was the somewhat controversial decision that Barnes didn't let Myler kick it straight out for half time (which he had been very clear on and made the right decision but Northampton didn't see it that way) before giving a penalty against Northampton at the scrum, so lots of evidence to say that Hartley's patience with Barnes was wearing thin.

I'm no fan of Barnes but thought he refereed everything perfectly in that period and to my mind its quite clear that Hartley (who I don't think denied saying "effing cheat") was talking to Barnes.

However the sport's governing body told BBC Sport: "World Rugby is keeping an interested eye on the application of the disciplinary process."

IRB knows something is going on with Huget, McGrath, Farrell not getting cited
